happened a couple of days ago to guy near me (cleveland force) plod turned up showed him a letter from the chief constable and revoked his licence on the spot not sure of the reason but guy is 65 had his ticket for years he is devastated, they also told him that they had another 38 knocks to do? something is going on up here perhaps thanks to a knee jerk over Durhams failures.

I heard the same thing KW apparently what i heard is the letter from the chief constable stated he did not think him a fit and proper person to hold guns...

When he queried it with the 2 plods they told him they could do it under the new police laws..

I was also told he had not even used his guns for over 2 years....

Apparently he had not put on his application some thing that happened over 40 years ago he has had his tickets for over 15 years..

I would have thought anything in his background would have come to light on first application...

I also heard like you that they has another 38 ticket holders to see...

Hmmm

Who was the letter from, chief constable ? The stats are disputed iirc (which force area are you in?) please do inform your shooting organisation of the details.

if they are doing as you say almost forty knocks to remove certificates then there is more to it.also this would not be the security checks that everyone has got in such a flap over.revokes only happen for a reason.

The reason for the knocks will become clear no doubt, as time goes by. In view of the post from Parrots 2 we'll have to wait and see; his was an unannounced security check from what I've read.

it would be a good thing in my view if when anyone posts a thread on here about certificates being revoked that the full facts are posted about the case as the op of this one makes it appear that a totally innocent person has had his cert pulled for no good reason.i doubt this will be the case.also if they were doing another 38 of these calls for the same reason I also doubt it would be done on a casual basis like we will do them as we get around to it.revokes are swift.as for the other visit it seems as this is nothing more than what has always been allowed under home office firearms rules.the two are totally different..

This looks very much like many shooting organisations have been caught on the 'back foot' - let us hope they all pursue this if it can be confirmed as the 'new initiative'.

Perhaps those who doubt the real intention behind this 'camouflage initiative' will be more prepared next time - because there will be a next time. Having worked with ACPO I have always been well aware they are a law unto themselves and rather like principles in a college of faithful followers, it is hard to imagine the image they portray within police forces. God -like would not be an understatement and clearly others feel the same and dont protect their position.

Has anyone noticed whether Peter Fahy (Chief Con of Manchester) has begun to implement his personal view that "the public should not be allowed to possess guns". This very recently and despite the problems he has with child abuse in GM. Maybe someone should ask him if this is a reasonable personal view for an impartial Chief Con to hold, given the law of the land. I can tell you he will try and justify any and all of his actions, he has no gift of hindsight if it affects his view of his future.

Andy Marsh as below is a Chief Con in the south - see below. If you get a letter from Him in any other area than his own - Hampshire, its the ACPO firearms 'Initiative'.

THE Daily Echo can today reveal the full explosive details of an investigation into Hampshire’s top police officer.

The chief constable of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, Andy Marsh, is facing a police probe from a separate force into claims he ordered a whitewash over the failure of police investigations into shocking sex abuse allegations at a Hampshire special school.

He is also accused of breaching confidentiality and contempt of court in connection with the same inquiry.

Seems like Sir Peter Fahy has a similar issues- quote from the BBC:-

"Sir Peter Fahy was served with both a criminal and gross misconduct notice by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

It has been claimed the force let a teenager enter the home of a suspected paedophile who was under surveillance.

The inquiry claims officers did not stop the boy from walking into his apartment, which they were watching."
