Fox tails

Thanks for that do you take The bone out?

The bone has to come out for best results. I use a tanning kit from Snowdonia Taxidermy Supplies. Easy to use and makes about two gallons. I just prepare the tail, soak it for no more than 3 days, and it's done. Perfect results every time.

Here's a link.

I hold the bone in a vice and tease the 'glove' off with a Stanley knife and gentle pull, soaked in Meths for 2 weeks and then washed with shampoo & conditioner and then blow dried with the g'friends hair dryer.

I just cut the tail off, and clamp the bone in a vice. I have a tail fur stripper that grips the fur, and I just pull the fur off. It can be done while the tail is still attached to the fox, but I bring the tails home

This one is similar to mine.

that fur stripping tool is a handy little piece of kit steve , ive always used the split stick method.

Bicarbonate of soda the cooking kind is good for deoderising. I just make a solution of it up for final rinsing of things that need freshning. (Its in a lot of fridge fresh deoderisers)Put as much in as will dissolve to get in solution. Not tried it on fox, but works well on dog waterproof coats. Might be worth a go.

Works well brushed in car carpet as a powder when you have spilt milk as well.

Just cut the skin around the base of the tail whilst still on the fox , get a twig each side and pull the tail will come off and leave the bone :good:

Hi

I tend to use a thickish hazel wand with a spit up three quarters of the length bit like a oldfashond clothes peg

Cut round tail slide on stick clamp together with your hands and PULL 😀

Hope this helps

It is a good bit of kit Mel. I know you can use sticks etc to help pull the fur off the tail, but I went a bought this 'professional' one. Not sure how much I paid for it though.

This is identical to the one I have.

Biggest problem is getting salt in tried that did not work well for me. So i now strip them from the fox at the farms and stick then in a sealed jar of mentholated spirits for 3 weeks..

We strip them like OF cut round the base, but we use a cord to strip the brush off just wrap round and stand on the back legs then stand up strips them no problem..
