ordnance
what a waste of good ammunition. Could you not say that about shooting at any target. Cannon
Could you not say that about shooting at any target. True. Reactive targets are good fun regardless of what they're made of. It's not as if practicing on paper or metal is a waste of ammo, as confidence in shot placement comes with practice on such materials, and not on live quarry. Scully
It's called having fun. We used to shoot at all sorts of fruit on our own range before handguns were banned, and we still shoot at fruit nowadays on 'zeroing' days with CF and RF rifles. Most impressive was a melon with a .444 Marlin at 25 metres.

Anyway he said he was admiring the firearm, not the melon shooting. no I couldn,t, I use targets to improve my accuracy at different distances and conditions ie wind etc, I really cant see any sense in shooting melons at 5ft away,,with idiots like THAT shooter and his behaviour its no wonder handguns got banned, I have tried to be as open minded as I can and I still cant see any sense in it at all, if people want to admire firearms then go and look at a picture instead of a clown blowing melons to bits from 5 feet, pathetic really IN MY OPINION atb Evo
fenboy
I have never encountered someone getting upset about fruit getting shot before When i was a kid I took great delight in shooting the apples on my Grandads tree , sometimes I still think I can feel my **** stinging Edited November 23, 2014 by fenboy
Zapp
Irrespective of whether you agree that shooting watermelons at close range would be fun or not, the maker of that video is one of the best pistol shots I have ever seen. There are plenty of videos of him hitting 6 inch targets at 100 yards, which with a pistol is some going. He also makes a lot of interesting and informative videos on modern and historical firearms. Did you never go pinking for fun, probably not you would see that as a waste of ammo. Again in case you missed what the post was about, it was about liking the firearm not the melon shooting. I know if I pulled one of them out at the range, it would get plenty of admires but I would be very unpopular with the people beside me when I was shooting it. PS Calm down no melons suffered in the making of the video. Edited November 23, 2014 by ordnance
Paddy Galore!
had loads of fun plinking at my old gun club, every Christmas they'd have different stands etc, the best one I remember was a game of skittles, 9 blocks of 4x4 wood on a patio table at 10m, the heavy gauge stuff worked the best, I nearly won a bottle one year but somebody beat me by shooting out the legs of the table. forgot to mention, Jeesus that thing makes a mess! zombies wouldn't stand a chance Edited November 23, 2014 by Paddy Galore! Scully
with idiots like THAT shooter and his behaviour its no wonder handguns got banned, The handgun ban had nothing whatsoever to do with the shooting of fruit. I once shot all the onions my dear old Grandad had strung up to dry at the end of his garden with my black widow catapult, he was NOT happy! My old cast Milbro is still hanging on the kitchen wall. MY son, some years ago asked if he could have a go with it, so to show him how it operated we both sat on the back step and I loaded a cherry tomato and fired it vertically into the air. It simply disappeared but a few seconds later we heard it land with a much noisier splat than I was ready for on a neighbours conservatory roof a few doors down. We nashed back indoors and any subsequent trial runs took place at the farm. Have a book called 'Backyard Ballistics' but so far we haven't done anything with it. Must make an effort next Summer; should be fun. If we can launch tatties from a tube via hairspray it should be fun with the .410. Edited to add not in the 'backyard' obviously. ShaggyRS6
So the point of sharing the video was indeed to admire the gun more than anything, and those huge rounds. Regarding the waste if ammunition, its America, guns here in the main are shot for fun, ammo is cheap. Who cares? Regarding the the guy in the video, its been mentioned I think, he is both one of the best shots I have seen with a hand gun, could probably outshoot a good amount of rifle shooters with a pistol. I, actually going to be shooting a desert eagle on Friday. I'm actually a bit apprehensive about it. Will be shooting an AR-15 and a few other rifles. The mind set here in the states is a lot different to that in the UK with the exception of a couple of states, i.e. where I live (NJ) and to some extent (NY) the gun laws here are somewhat like the UK. EVeryone bow hunts in NJ because you are not allowed to hunt with a long rifle. Regarding the behavior like that comment? Really? Once again, the mind set here if different. That guy is on his own property shooting in complete safety and having a great time. Different mind set. Out in PA people like that have more land than some people have permission to shoot on in the UK. Its just different Edited November 25, 2014 by ShaggyRS6

The very definition of narrow mindedness. "I do this and I do that, because...I don't understand anyone who isn't exactly like me and only likes what I like". Whilst you clearly don't, it is perfectly acceptable to enjoy shooting and have a bit of fun every now and then Edited November 25, 2014 by Blunderbuss

Mentalmac
A whole new meaning to 'low hanging fruit' nice gun... Out of date egg's was always good fun. One thing I'd like to see shot wold be an out of date tin of Swedish Surstromming... (fermented fish where the gasses build up and make the tins warp before they open them and they are prone to exploding) Edited November 25, 2014 by Mentalmac
