Charging air rifles with electronics

We keep our air rifles in a cabinet due to grandchildren coming round regularly. Daystates that we have need charging every so often. To save leaving them out while charging we drilled a hole in the cabinet big enough to thread the end of the charging lead in so the gun can be charged while still secure.

why do that ?

they have a electronic safety( key operated ), they also have a manual safety so best just to ensure the rifle is not loaded ,take magazine out and bobs your uncle

if it was me I would charge it up once the grandkids where in bed, certainly wouldn't drill my cabinate

Even when the Grandchildren aren't round I don't like the idea of the Air rifle lying about while its being charged. I know it is safe and secure in the cabinet, won't fall over or get knocked by accident. It doesn't matter if we have to go out unexpectadley as it is already in the cabinet.

Maybe you think it is a mad idea. I prefer the belt and braces approach.

Also I guess slightly better for a FEO's knowledge (If an FAC one that is) that it's not being left out and about around the house and not in a cabinet whilst on charge.

even if non FAC at least it's peace of mind that it's still safely locked away and out of view and easy reach of opportunist thieves.

Seems like a safer idea to me. That's obviously if the hole in the cabinet isn't big enough to get any implement in that will aid in it's stealing if a burglar was to find it and is in a discreet place. Another way of getting a mini de-humidifier in there too?

my air rifles are put away in cabinets, the cabinets are in a room (my office) which is as far away from the front door as you can get , basically in my attic conversion, the door to this room has a 5 lever mortice lock on it and also a yale lock, the cabinets are built into a cupboard with a lock on it,

when it comes to charging my airwolf then I take it out the cabinet ,out the cupboard and plug it in, then leave the room and lock both locks, I,ll usually charge it overnight once every 3 months at most,

I have kids in our home all the time but they can NEVER get in or near my gun room so its ultra safe,

drilling a cabinet is very drastic but I suppose it boils down to WHERE the cabinet is situated also do children and/or others have access to where its stored,

sometimes if I,m going out shooting I,ll put the rifle on charge for an hour ,

just on another note would this not affect the security of the cabinet ? I wonder what your FAO would say about drilling holes in an approved cabinet, just a thought

I have an anti-condensation heater in my Brattonsound cabinet and just widened the existing small "hole" in the back corner (must be something to do with bending of the metal during manufacture) by a couple of mm to get a mains cable through. No security compromise whatsoever.

Can you not just turn the gun off if safety is a concern? I also seem to recall my Daystate getting quite warm after charging for a while so I would prefer some airflow.

Its not just about safety. Its about security of the air rifle as the rules say no unsupervised access to under 18s. They don't split hairs about it being turned on or off. Also we have cats which could knock it when out the cabinet. I know its safe and secure if its in the cabinet when not in use.

Only the charger on mine gets warm, not the gun. Its a Mk4.
