secretagentmole
Got into the woods early last night. Ready to avenge the deaths of more peas, wheat, rape plants etc. Waited, waited, one flew in and landed, tried to get into position to get a shot on it, it flew off. Waited waited, hour before sun set, still waiting, one landed in a tree about 70 metres away, managed to get a shot at it after stalking closer and it hit the deck. As I picked it up there was a high pitched "Cree" and coming over at treetop height were two blasted Buzzards! No wonder the pigeons had moved. These two birds were obviously treating the sitty trees as a fly thru takeaway! Feeling somewhat disenchanted I stalked round the other part of the wood in case some had landed in the trees on the right, nothign to be seen. Then I saw the long tailed greater white ringnecked pigeon (with the red eye flashes) sitting in silhouette so I stepped out to get a better shot through the branches and it took off making a noise like a vintage car rally. It's accomplice behind it did not move. So I sent it a sleeping pellet at about 800 fps! It hit the deck with a nice thud! So now I have to wait for the two feathered thugs to clear the area before my pigeon shooting can get back to normal!
evo
they are a stunning bird to watch but can be a pain, I,ve had them pick a full bodied decoy up and fly off with it only to drop it over a 100yrds away, when out with my shooting buddie we had one rip a dead pigeon decoy to bits 20yrds from the hide, we both sat there in amazement watching it for 20 mins, it was a fantastic site but it did kill the pigeon shooting whilst it hung about, once it got off the pigeons returned, but I am seeing a hell of a lot more of them these days whilst out shooting atb Evo
Capital Bee
I've seen 7 in the air at the same time around by me. On one of my perm's I've even walked into a barn and disturbed one roosting in there. They are becoming very common, but nice birds to see, unless you're hunting for the same thing they are. loriusgarrulus
Found one at the side of the road one Christmas eve a few years back. Fortunatley not too severeley injured. Amazing yellow colour legs and beak and beautiful eyes. Took it to the local wildlife hospital and they rang me to see if I wanted to release it a few months later near where I found it. Amazing to set it free and watch it fly, best feeling in the world.
secretagentmole
Might be the best feeling in the world but having 11 pie fillers is a lot better!
Big Gnat
These Buzzards are everywhere now! I personally no longer think they warrant protection and these birds are to blame for the drop in numbers of Rabbits. Round my way there's more buzzards per field than there is crows !
