Cookie69
Today I have been out beating on a small farmers syndicate. After a few weeks of cold game retrieves the time came for his 1st warm game retreive. It wasn't a hard one by any means, about 30yrds out into a wheat field but he picked it and returned to hand without any issues. Just when I thought things don't get much better and after the following drive I was called into a rape field to help look for a pricked bird. It was next to a pit hole , and a couple of dogs and beaters/ guns had gone over the area before I got there. Just as they said it was lost and began to walk off my dog walked out of the pit hole tail wagging and with a pheasant in his mouth with wings flapping. Good lad (-: Can you remember the 1st time your dog made you proud? Paul

rimfire4969
I can still remember my first gundog on her first flush of a pheasant, I shot it then sent her to retrieve it. I was on my own but still I was so proud. That was about 30 years ago and the memory is still fresh it could of been yesterday. Well done. elmafud
Had a moment this Saturday whilst out roost shooting. Was stroking my labs head and telling him that he was being a good boy for just sitting there and not whining when he suddenly raised his head and tracked a pigeon. This tells me that he is starting to suss it all out.
hodge911
yep the little beggars do impress don't they !!! the first time I took jess on the ducks I did not expect much from as she had never done anything like it before. as she is mainly used for rough walking shooting . so as I sat waiting for the evening flight coming on to the pond I left her in the motor . fast forward 6 birds down all in the pond amongst the various reed beds I went and got her from the motor and took her to the pond she eagerly hunted the shoreline and stood scenting the air tail going like a propeller it took her a little while to get what I wanted of her and away into the pond she went after a few commands to find it she disappeared into the reed patch and out she came with the first showed her where I wanted her to go next and bird #2 and so on till all 6 were found in the dark as well so I know how proud you felt mate well done that little dog :good: Edited December 9, 2014 by hodge911
