Mandarin ducks

You are correct , they cannot be legally shot.

 

England, Wales & Scotland

The species that can be shot during their open season are (Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981):

Duck Gadwall Goldeneye Mallard Pintail Pochard Shoveler Teal Tufted duck Wigeon Goose Canada* Greylag Pink-footed White-fronted**(England and Wales only) Wader Golden plover Common snipe Woodcock Other Coot Moorhen

Thanks I,ve been looking after these ,put up a nest box

And first shoot day they blast away at them and then swear they are legal quarry

 

Rather bad form then , just make it clear if they shoot one you will report it , that should make them think twice.

Very beautiful they are too.

Anyone know the reason for not shooting them? Considering a pest species effectively! Never seen one in the wild and if it doesn't taste good I wouldn't shoot anyway but just curious as to why..

Simply because thats what the law says , or more importantly does not say , its not on the list so it cannot be shot simple .

Trouble is it is not wide spread country wide therfore their may not be sufficient numbers for it to go on the list .
