loriusgarrulus
The photograph belies the statement on the lack of mastery of the camera. Hope you are better soon.

Underdog
Thanks fellers. The camera was favoring iso3200 and 1600. Am sure it is making the shots grainy or noisy I believe is the term. This Cannon 1200d seems a little like hard work. In the good old days a films iso was dictated by your choice and the camera worked around that! These things are too smart, well for me any way! malkiserow
Nice to see Underdog. Just where exactly do you have that flue inserted to make you feel rotten? Hope you get better soon

poontang
Don't put yourself down, they're nice pics. I'll make a couple of assumptions if I may? They're heavily cropped pics (which will accentuate any visible noise)? They were taken on a dull day with flat lighting? You were using the long end of a kit lens (200/250mm)? Probably with the maximum aperture of about f5.6? Do you know what shutter speed you were using for those shots? What mode were you using to shoot in? Underdog
In shade yes. 300mm maxed yes. Cropped yes. Did not note aperture but recall the shutter about 1/400&1/500 I think! I used it auto settings mostly including a macro selection. Anxious of time other wise I would of kept shooting in the manual modes and kept the I so lower, maybe 400. U. Brigsy
If you use an apeture favouring setting or if you are static on the bird feeder full manual i'm sure you will be able to select a lower ISO. By the sounds of it, if you could only get 500 or so at 3200 it was quite dark and you were probably going to struggle either way.
Underdog
Yes, it was in shade with strong sunlight else where. I have now learnt how to limit the ISO in the manual settings, see the chaffinch photo I put on. It cropped a lot better! Learning.....slowly. U. Brigsy
Nice one. If you limit the ISO keep a weather eye on the shutter speed!
Underdog
Update, first shots today were at ISO100 but they were to dark so I took the easy way out and upped the ISO to 200. It has allowed better cropping but at 15' I am seeing the limitations of this lens now! U.
Brigsy
Are you using the largest option image size when taking the image?
Underdog
Are you using the largest option image size when taking the image? What's that then? :-)
Brigsy
In your options select the biggest image size. I.E. Large and finest. Then you have more pixels to crop into and it should hold up a bit better.
Underdog
Will do, thanks.
