Royboy
This time last year I would watch pigeons fly over my work by the thousand first thing in the morning then going back in the afternoon, this year ive not seen a single bunch flying over. Maybe it's because there is no acorns on the floor like last year ? Has anybody else seen pigeons in good numbers in the NW ?
Longbower
On the A49 just where it crosses the M56, there are two fields next to the A49, which must have had 1000 pigeons on it today, and for much of last week. My perm is very close, and on that permission, NOT A ####### Thing. In fact there are more on the house roofs , in our village? DOH!

HIDENSEEK
I'm in the same area Royboy, and not seeing many. One of my perms is near your old(?) stamping ground, and it's patchy to say the least.

Old stomping ground ? I used to have quite a lot round here but all the old school farmers are dieing off I'm afraid
Westley
Several large flocks heading out 8.30am ish coming back 3.30pm ish. Some dropping onto sprouts at bottom of garden, if numbers pick up along with a good wind, I will have a flighting hour or so. I think these large flocks are heading out into Rainford, West Lancs. direction. Edited December 15, 2014 by Westley

I think these large flocks are heading out into Rainford, West Lancs. direction. they are always about around rainford area in good numbers I have shot and beat around there over the years, but its mainly game shooting land owned by lord daresbury let out to the tenant farmers so getting permission is like trying to win the lottery
oz.man64
Lathom way is well sewn up for permission and syndicates. Im lucky to have permission around there and a wood to shoot in as I work for a keeper. Its always been hard to get permission around there
oz.man64
Saying this lads if your prepared to travel I joined nppc and we used to shoot in Uttoxeter when nothing else about. Something is better than nothing I suppose
Royboy
My problem is even though it's all probably taken I don't have the Balls to go and ask !
Longbower
Well I pay several hundred quid a year. I go out in the car, with bino's, watch for flight lines and inspect the fields at different times of the day. Errr, nothing for months. There are more Pigeons sitting on the roofs in our terraced street when I walk the dogs , than I see in a month touring around the syndicate grounds. I don't know anyone else in the syndicate, so don't have any information from any other of the members. I have probably only shot 35 pigeons this year. But have spent tens of hours trying. Got Full bodied decoys, Shell deeks, floaters, and a pop up and standard hide. 600 acres , but no pigeons. Makes me want to just give up/sell up. On the other hand, I sent 20 letters out to Equestrian centres, and Golf Courses, and ended up with three permissions, and plenty of Rabbit shooting using an air rifle, The downside is I cant get rid of all the rabbits. If you have not got the nerve to go and ask,(don't worry many people haven't) , send permission requests by post. its gotta be worth a try! Best of luck buddy. Royboy
Not a bad idea with the Letters, I pay for a small bit of land to shoot over but there's no crops on there, it's got a cracking flight pond on there though, it's worth paying just to have a walk round somewhere
Andylea
New to the site, and live in the scarisbrick/churchtown area, pigeon numbers are very poor for this time of year, what are the numbers like on your patches ?. Been out a couple of times over Xmas and not had 1 shot, this time last year between 3 of us we'd had 4 to 5 hundred, hope they come for February!!
