Just curious as to how many people use and dingy to shoot from or sneak boat?

As me and my mate this season have been using our sneak boat to drift under the moon for the duck and geese

Does any body travel around the country with there sneak boats to shoot there club marshes?

Sounds dodgy travelling over water you do not own?.

And of course you cannot persue duck in a motorised boat.

Even picking the duck off the water useing the engine, you have to row, or paddle.

If traveling down creeks on the marsh you are allowed to shoot over fair enough.

But still,,,, without power of any sort..

We have done a lot of this type of shooting and are well aware of the law, as advised by bascs wildfowling team.

You can legally shoot wildfowl in a boat whilst drifting . You however are NOT allowed to persue wildfowl with any type of motorisation or be at anchor.inlongs you make a clear effort to show you are under drift .ie if you use a engine to get to creek you should the remove from water and put it on tilt.

Hi we use a slightly bigger boat as there is two of us ,

If you want a good fairly simple to build sneak boat , Google west Mersea sneak boat which is where I'm from a chap who use to build them has plans and drawrings available on the Internet to build from ( don't know how to attach a photo of my boat)

Could I ask you to clarify what you mean by "..... and to travel to creeks that our club do not own"

You have, of course, a right of navigation but do you mean that you are shooting over land upon which you have neither permission or Consent from Natural England?

Hopefully, I`ve misunderstood what you actually meant.

You ask "Does anybody else travel around the country to drift creeks?" The answer to that will be "No" since, without the appropriate club memberships and Consents it would constitute armed trespass.

To bring this to the attention of the forum is not a good idea wether its within the law or not. In England we have moved away from the bad old days when the foreshore was a free for all where the club system brings a measure of control to forshore shooting with the result of better sport for the club members and to have someone else poaching on their marsh is just not on , even if it is along water filled creeks and if it becomes widespread will have only long term result , the banning of the use of boats for shooting. Many clubs only have a limited number of days shooting on their marsh , bag limits and have have to send in bag returns to Natural England or they will lose their notice of consent. Do you keep to these rules when shooting on another clubs marsh ? How would you feel if a stranger was sneak boating in your clubs marsh resulting in the loss of your shooting or ruined a goose roost. Punt gunning is a very different sport as its usually done far out on the estuary well away from any shore shooters and many punters are members of the club holding the shooting rights or at the very least liase with the club holding the shooting rights.

There is also the problem of sneak boating on the birds themselves. Many duck use flooded creeks at high tide because they are fairlysafe feeding areas and will spill over into shootable areas for land based wildfowlers. A Shooting from a boat in this situation will ruin the sport for others. Some clubs have a tradition of shooting from a boat and as long as its done on their own ground then its up to them , but to trepass onto another clubs ground is bad pratice.

For what its worth I shoot from a boat on a lake where all the shooting is done from a boat as the banks are inaccessable to a fowler on foot but we have strict limits on where we can go , how many birds we can shoot and shoot on a roata on a very limited number of days.

Mudpattern :Yes I understand why you have asked this question as my initial question was not very clear.

We travel to another local club to us , and also the one where we live, the reason I asked about travelling about the country is on here a lot of members talk about travelling to various locations throughout the country and was wandering if people travelled with there boats?

Traveling to creeks your club does not own? Sounds like poaching to me.

I know of at least one club where it is banned. Others you'd likely get an ounce and a quater of steel shot through the boat!

Think its piracy on the water Matt 😗😃

Arrrrr splice the mainbrace

And i think you have to fire a broadside 😃😀😗

Or tip them the black spot 😊😃

Easy to spot them

Wooden leg hook eye patch and parrot

All the best

Mag man you are right !!!

When I spoke to basc last year about it , they told me it is legal below high water mark, but of corse where the foreshore is private and where it is also leased these areas must be avoided.

And Anthony I can't work out how the ruddy hell you upload photos on here !!! Any ideas?

It would be if you have permission, but alot of foreshore is tied up in club leases and clubs have rules

your talking about foreshore which he is not on , he's talking about below the high water mark which your club doesn't own

Not saying it's right just how the law is

Yes it's wrong but it is the law :/
