Winchester 101 light strike...

Hi all, just after some advice please............ While shooting some clays yesterday at my parents farm my newly purchased but "getting on a bit" Winchester 101 was light striking on the bottom barrel, it happened 3 times in about 75 carts, the carts were eley first's two of which were damaged with bulges in the plastic.

The gun was delivered to my Rfd who fully serviced it and it was spotless when I picked it up (I personally know the gunsmith and trust him)

I know I need to shoot other carts though the gun to see if it happens again, I'd just like to know what the approximate cost of sorting springs or firing pins out ( I would ask the gunsmith but he's on his christmas hols until the 9th of jan......)

Any advice would be welcome....

Cheers Tedly

Quite common for the bottom firing pin to go on the 101-had my lads done a few months back and ,with a complete overhaul and service it was £170. On the other hand if you have only just bought it then the dealer has some responsibilities-the least he could do is maybe pay half the repair cost or get the job done trade?

Sounds like firing pin no big deal had them made for mine

Think I stole this before you got to it muffin, wanted it for the hide as I was to worried about damaging my other OU... Problem is it's very, very nice to shoot, had a new butt pad fitted so it fits me perfect.... Don't know if I was just on form that day but I couldn't miss with it, got a feeling I'm going to get Welsh warrior to sort the wood out and sell my other OU....

What a gun.....

Welcome to the 101 Appreciation Society.Yes you should try other cartridges but sounds a bit like a firing pin to me. Yes I think you did a good deal I Guess that's the Super-grade we looked at on PW Winchester 101 are good well made guns underrated by many [ I have started something now ] Whatever I look at and I was looking at some nice Browning s last week I think well just keep shooting one of the Winchesters my problem is I like to keep adding them and I will have to sell one to make way for another but that's life. Enjoy your 101 and look after it Cheers.
