Will partridge fly into a wood?

Recommended Posts

hi all,

Having never tried partridge on a little pheasant/duck shoot i am a part off, i was wondering the answer to this question.

Would partridge fly off a covercrop (where their pen would be) down a hill into a wood or would they fly to the side into the middle of the field?

Thanks all

Hi Prawn,

the answer is basically Yes, but it depends on yours woods and cover

I have a game crop above a larch wood and the redlegs regularly fly in during a drive and are then flushed out by the beaters.

Feeding today I come upon a covey feeding at a feeder in an open oak wood

and they love gorse, so if you have an understorey or wood edge of gorse they love to hang around the gorse for security and warmth, they especially like flaked maize hand fed into and underneath the gors
