Pigeons Without Decoying

I have a few hours free tomorrow morning so thought I may go out for a wonder on a few bits of farmland I have access to. Thing is, as a newbie I don't have decoys and all the equipment yet. I have booked on the BASC course in two weeks an 'Introduction to Woodpigeons' and I don't want to rush out buying anything before I have taken some good advice. Anyway, my question is, is it worth a general stroll to try picking off the odd woody?

I guess anytime outside with a gun is good and it will give me chance to check out some land for flight paths, roosting spots etc.

I would try to be on the land by the latest, 8.00am. Then either quietly wander the hedgerows for bunnies or sit and watch for any possible pigeon flight paths. Forecast is for a good wind, which will make birds fly along the sheltered side of hedges and woods. Position yourself on any flightline that may develop. Use what natural cover is available, but most of all KEEP STILL until birds are in range and then, up and fire as one movement. It may pay you to learn to shoot kneeling or sitting too. Good luck.

P.S. No Game on a Sunday !
