Been working out near goring for last week and on the way home yesterday coming over this valley you can see for miles, noticed a big gang of pigeons lift up off a rape field and in the distance noticed another two gangs about a mile apart also lifted at practicly the same time just thought it was weird seen it a few times recently wot makes separate gangs fly off at the same time

They hear the Town Hall clock chime 6 o'clock and they know it's time to go home to bed ?

Oh, no. That's teddy bears I'm thinking of

Falling or changing light levels play a big part in it I'm sure, as does a change of the wind or a sudden 'smell of rain' on the wind. Reaction times in pigeon are notoriously quick. They all feel the change in conditions . one or two lift off because of it, and the rest follow suit immediately making it look to us as if they all took off together.
