winnie&bezza Posted January 21, 2015 Report Share Posted January 21, 2015 Hi all, I've got a ford connect 03 and it's not starting even with a new battery and it only clicks once when turn key. It was last started Christmas time as Ive got a car now so have'nt needed to use it. I was told to give the starter a few whacks but still doesn't start. The starter was new about 3-4 years ago and the van hasn't done a great deal of miles since really so I'm unsure if it needs a new one. oliver90owner Posted January 21, 2015 Report Share Posted January 21, 2015 Yes, get a multimeter and check how far the voltage gets, when under load. Problem could be one, or more, of several. From dead starter to poor earth connection. If no meter, check whether lights dim as starter is operated. Check for hot joints. Changing components is the expensive way to find the cure. neil82 Posted January 21, 2015 Report Share Posted January 21, 2015 had a problem years ago with a connect, it was the fuse box in the end but took some finding, try taking a length of heavy cable connected to the battery live and flashing that to the small cable on the starter solenoid, if it turns over at a fair lick (make sure its in neutral, ignition off) that rules out the starter and points to wiring or relay fault Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

oliver90owner Posted January 21, 2015 Report Share Posted January 21, 2015 Lights dimming means a sudden heavy current draw. If not, then it is before the motor windings. Love your idea smudgey and that might be my next try before ringing someone! Okay Oliver I haven't got a clue if it's precharged so yes I need experienced advice ! Was quite common for it. Also they used to blow the 20 amp fuse in the fuse box under the bonnet. They also suffer from badly corroded wiring to the starter motor and alternator.
