All these positive comments confirm what I believed to be correct in the first place, shot another fox in daylight with the 20 bore hushpower, that's 2 in 2 days, saw it working a rough meadow, sat where I believed it would come and true enough it appeared 30 yards away staring at me, oz of 5 shot sorted it, another dog.

That's the way to do it, it is good out witting them. :good:

22lr not enough :-(

What you really need is a 30.06 ;-)

Well done ud

ps Out lamping Saturday night and one fox passed away just 55 yards from my muzzle, there getting closer lol

:lol::good:

The other aspect to this is I had been visiting this ground for weeks in pursuit of these foxes, about three at a guess. Forsaking many a pheasant hunt with my smoke poles and got no where.

Yesterday I went there to collect a rabbit or to when this fox turned up.

Do some folk really believe I should of pass up on the shot bearing mind all the previous efforts?

" Oh fiddle, wrong gun. Yoo hoo Mr fox" lol, not likely!

If some one keeps poultry and they have the wrong gun in hand as a fox was killing I tell you now in no way would they pass on the shot!

I can see both sides to the argument here , thinking you have fox or AOLQ on your ticket for 22lr ? if not may not be the best thing to put on the net

But then again i no some people that shoot at fox's with shotguns at range that say if the penetrate the skin they die of lead poisoning , not my cup of tea im afraid :/

Maybe not the best post to put up ???

if a tree falls in an empty wood does it make a sound :whistling:

I think this post would have been best kept in the authors head and surely only serves to cause questioning of his shooting skill/savvy and gives the antis plenty to jump on if they stumble across this.

Personally I have no issue with the .22 for fox at an appropriate distance but maybe emptying a full magwas a bit ott

Depends how much you fear man I suppose :-/

Here is another disgraceful picture!

I shot this deer twice and was ready with the third!

It ran after a perfectly placed first shot, the second connected after it stopped from a one hundred yard dash. Oddly I feel no shame for this or the fox's.

Hi

For all the people on this thread that are shooting foxes with a 22lr just check you have fox on your ticket or phone BASC or your local police.as it is illegal if you have not.

I was going to put this on my tread but it got locked even thou it was legitimate.

I am not having a go at anyone just stating a fact, your call

Best Regards

sucking eggs alert!! Understanding the legal boundaries are the very fundamentals of holding firearms, If you haven't got a grasp of that you shouldn't have firearms at all!

Altho I dont have fox mentioned anywhere on my FAC, all my guns are cleared for vermin (yes I have 22lr), fox are vermin... and yes I've cleared that with Devon and Cornwall firearms department.

?is this your opinion or a statement of fact as there isnt a minimum calibre for a fox?

The minimum calibre is 22 hornet on most forces for fox.

Home office guidelines say that you can shoot foxes at close range,But the police tell you what you can and cannot shoot and they put it on your licence.

So there is nothing in the law that says foxes are vermin fact.so that's the grey area.

Get caught riisk prosecution fact

So I would assume that fox used to be on an fac ticket many years ago and that's why people disagree.

Just trying to help ,you would not want to lose your licence.

Best regards

Cheers Youngie. I was merely trying to get clarification as it seemed like a statement of fact.

I have an open ticket for .17 HMR, .243 and .270 all of which have AOLQ so I have no concerns about the legality of my shooting. Also Dyfed Powys Police seem sensible in not applying a minimum calibre for foxes.

edit, fox has been replaced with AOLQ on my FAC, it used to be listed separately... yes against my rimfires.

also just double checked with the firearms department.... very helpful gents and ladies, all as I thought. While on the phone to them I also ran a .243 variation by them...."Thats not a problem Sir" :)

I dont understand why people dont contact them in the first instance (if there's a perceived grey area), they're there to help.

With you 100% on that. Also, I always find my firearms team to be very helpful....just very very slow when it comes to renewals.
