miroku_fan
You are absolutely correct in what you say. The only point I would add is that the balance and the way in which a gun handles varies from individual to individual. Many skeet shooters for example prefer a gun that is slightly muzzle heavy in order to promote a smooth controllable swing. Others prefer a gun with lighter barrels that enables them to "attack" the clay targets very quickly. Both types of shooters would probably feel that their guns were balanced but this is a consequence of their shooting style/ technique. Westward
Its the balance that matters More specifically it's the weight distribution. If an 8lb gun is very muzzle heavy and you balance it it by adding lead to the back of the stock the gun will still feel heavier than it should and will still handle poorly. If the weight is more centralised, a 9lb gun can feel lighter and be more agile than the 8lb gun above. Beretta has worked this out with the 692, albeit at barely 8lbs, as has Krieghoff with the Parcours and also Browning with the 725 - although personally I think the 725 is too light overall at around 7.75lbs. Perazzi of course worked it out donkey's years ago and more recently so did Guerini.
timps
In the wise words of Boris "The Blade" Yurinov. “Heavy is good, heavy is reliable. If it doesn't work you can always hit him with it.”
