Ambushing

Problem is you boys do not dress properly, you layer up. Two pairs of socks, trousers, camo trousers, t shirt, thermal shirt, sweat shirt, camo jacket, gloves and decent boots and you stay warm even if you lay in the same place for hours! A flask of hot drink works as well but don;t have a sugar free hot drink, instant hot chocolate has calories and you will keep warm absorbing the sugars as well as the war liquid! Prone position ambush shooting means no problem with piles too!

Mole, I'm too close to 60, putting all that clobber on and then having a hot drink means I need to widdle every 30 minutes, I can't lie prone because my back seizes up and then I can't stand up or walk without looking like the Hunchback of Notre Dame. I already have piles anyway!

The best form of ambush for me is to park the car near the warren/decoys/sitty tree and wait in the warm in a leather heated seat.

If there happens to be something close enough to shoot when I happen to wake up then fair enough. If not, then at least I've had a good snooze.

Actually I do ambush but only from a chair, I only lie down in fields for one reason and that remains private and between me and Mrs tt. :whistling:

get yourself a carp mat,,perfect for sitting on and waiting,,was out last night on the rats and my buddie had a table and chairs waiting for the rats to come about,,had to laugh but I,ve never seen anyone more comfy than he was,,clever lad

usually prefer to walk about and spot them but sometimes its better to sit and wait or lie in waiting lol

Seriously though, why go prone? It's uncomfortable, you need a bipod, you can't see out in front very well and you always have the risk of a blade of grass between you and the quarry.

Get yourself a green plastic garden chair and hack the legs down to about 10 inches, use a bit of camo net and a couple of road pins with a stick between them to form a simple screen, Use shooting sticks to rest your rifle on, problem sorted.

I've tried prone, it's ok for targets but for live quarry I find it the most uncomfortable position ever invented.

You have to ask whether it's worth doing though, personally I haven't got enough rabbits or pigeons at the moment to make it worthwhile so a quick walk is enough. Once the warm spring and summer days arrive? That's a different scenario! Sat in the corner of a field in late evening sunshine with fish and chips and a bottle of homebrew, heaven! :good:

would that be homebrew cider ir cidre timmy :lol:

judging by where you come from,,i take it you also walk home after shooting then, don't want ya admitting to DD :yes:  :good:

Can't drink the apple juice anymore mate, I leave that for the boys. As for getting home, On occasions my Mrs will drop me off and pick me up. Sometimes I'll take the tent and sleep on the farm. Either way, I don't risk my licence, more often than not it's a flask of tea with the Fish and chips and a good snooze with my back against a gatepost.

Apologies for thread hijack

Could I ask what nv you have on your Gun , is it homemade ?

Thanks :)

It is a Night Eye NE 500, a professional built version of the home brew kits. Goof for 200 metres plus in even bad conditions. Not available anymore sadly put out of business by the homebrew lot. They were priced under the price of an NS 50 with colour monitor and built in IR source!

LOL ... I've had to adapt since spinal surgery, plus the old knees take a hammering getting up right ... the seat is, seat - come haversack ... the picnic table gives me a bit more stability .. plus it only weighs a kilo. Rifle/seat-bag all over shoulder and table in hand .. its the future !
