Pigeon shooting calling cards.

In preparation for my move to the Lincolnshire Wolds this spring I designed some calling cards for distribution amongst local farmers as my contacts up there at present number exactly nil. I sent a photograph of a single wood pigeon sitting on a fence which I took myself (I decided against a shot of the slain from previous outings) and I set out the text including all of my contact details.

Thankfully I asked for a proof to be sent before printing and I am pleased that I did as the proof that was sent showed a Stock Dove in all it's glory. I suppose a pigeon is a pigeon to arty types in the printing world but not to me and I have asked for it to be changed.

i think you should have that pic of that flock of birds you posted this week ....the ones you couldnt shoot................

that would give any farmer a cross between "the heebee-geebees...and nightmares" .....then

follow it up sending one of "supertashes" pics,,.....you know the ones with a thousand or so birds laid out in rows....with the words underneath

"THIS IS WOT I DO TO 'EM"

followed by the usual mobile numbers etc.......

failing that ...get the georgeous mrs Jdog to knock on a few doors instead....bet she would have more luck !!

Binbrook. Maybe not quite pigeon central but I have seen quite a few over the last six months or so. The variety of crops grown gives me some optimism.

Just had a look on google earth did some pheasant shooting at scamblesby that show ten miles away as the crow flies, nice landscape think you will find several pigeons have a good move.

Goodprint Jdog. They produce a very professional looking card. To be honest, if a card such as the quality of Vista print dropped through my door, it would say enough, and there would be no further communication!

I sincerely hope that after the wonderful shooting opportunities that you have enjoyed in the Cotswolds, that your new destination comes up trumps. I feel confident it will!

Thanks for all of the input.

Having made several errors on my card even before they got anywhere near a final proof I have sacked the printers. They had quoted £135 for 100 cards. Vistaprint seems to have been the answer and I have designed my own card and have ordered 250 decent quality cards to be delivered in seven days for £19:99. There will be no pictures of Stock Doves.

Goodprint do a loyalty scheme. Not sure how on earth it works, but I use them for my sporting cards and business cards. The last batch were free which was very nice.........considering I can't have spent more than £25 with them over the years!!!

I think the Vista print serve a purpose, but the quality is very poor. The ones I had done are intact in the box they arrived in!

First impression and all that

Leave a few cards on the bar at The Plough at Binbrook and The Click'em at Swinhope, should find most of the farmers.

I have been a regular if infrequent visitor to the Click'em Inn in recent months and I enjoy the range of real ales found there. As for The Plough I am not so sure.

The only trouble with vista print I found was the cards aren't the standard business card, slightly smaller and just look a bit cheap. I had cards/fliers done at 'minuteman' printers (a chain), really good price and quality! £60 odd for 500 laminated cards.

To be fair, farmers just want your details and aren't going to worry about the card....good luck in building up your permissions again, must be tough starting from scratch in a new area!!

I've just had some done by Vistaprint, as we changed the name of our business. They are good quality, well coloured, sharp print and a bit bigger than some of the 'free' ones we had done a few years ago, where you just pay for the postage. I suspect two different grades, depending on whether you are paying or not... Easy online design and upload of your pictures. Far less trouble than we have had with Yell trying to get them to get the Yellow Pages ad right, they can't even spell!!!
