I was driving up the m1 last week and a van in the inside lane nearly missed his junction so he just swerved across three lanes and nearly took out about four vehicles including me he was only inches away from my front bumper so I am thinking dash cam does any one use one or can recommend a good one thanks gents

Just make sure you dont do anything silly when using them.

One of the lorry drivers from work got reported for indicating late when pulling off the motorway by another driver who uses a camera, the guy even emailed a copy of the recording to work after reporting it to the police, I saw the recording it showed our driver indicating a bit late but there was no dangerous braking by himself. But it also showed the guy recording tailgating for quite some distance before and then braking sharply as he was so close.

Work actually forwarded the email to the police with a complaint of tailgating, last thing I heard the police were investigating the driver who made the recording.

I have just bought a secondhand Kodak zx3 on recomendation from another Landy driver who makes green lane films. Its a camcorder that can be mounted using a camera mount with screw fitting with a sucker pad similar to the sat nav mounts. OH has fitted a couple of 5amp 12v computer plugs into the Landy to run this and the sat nav. It will take up to a 32GB card for recording. You can also take it with you to use as a camcorder or take stills.

Mini 0803 amberella with GPS,very small and discrete, sits just in front of the head lining so out of field of view.I hard wired it in so powers up soon a ignition turned on.The screen goes off within a minute of starting the engine and a small bit if tape over the flashing blue light( record light) stops and distraction. You can take it out the car to take stills as well.Forgot it's there as it's well out of my field of view.

With the standard of driving I see every day I am also looking to have one installed. I suspect its a lot of people with foreign licences who drive like idiots, undertaking is now the norm, hauling across lanes to get to exits, even saw one guy last night turn left through a red traffic light. He has been stationary and just decided to go.

Driving a Defender with a big trailer on it most evenings and nights it is getting worrying.

I'm considering these for our vans, but how does one go about wiring them in?

Easy mate just get a add a fuse off the bay and you can get a direct wiring kit off the manufacturer.Black wire to an earth and red to the add a fuse, pick a fuse on the fuse box that powers on when ignition key turns. The add a fuse is a nice bit of kit, just look on you tube.

Nice thing about hardwiring is not a cable in sight if you plan your routing right.

i have a £25 one from amazon and its ok

the weakness is there is only one camera and it faces forward, i would like one that does front and back and side to side, i find the big one now is flash for cash, where people flash you to pull ot of a t junction and do a side impact as its off camera

I never pull out even when flashed,if they did that on a driving test they would fail,if your not causing an obstruction then they have No need to flash you out. There are cams out there that do both front & rear though if you look. Edited by Davyo

Problem is we are constantly using sat nav and charging phones so know it would be constantly unplugged

Will investigate this add a fuse idea

I just use a splitter on mine - does the satnav, phone and dashcam.

I have dash cam & 2x internal headrest DVD players hard wired using add a fuse, not a cable in sight.

I think this is the way to go so there can be no excuses.

Do you have a link for add a fuse?

Assume you have to pick any same rated fuse that has the same amp rating and something that comes on when the engine starts? Interior lights on something?
