Pigeon with huge growth on leg

Today a pigeon accidently flew into my shot pattern when it was having an inspection of my decoy set. That was unusual for a start but on picking it up I thought it had accumulated a huge clods of soil on each leg. Taking a closer look it was apparent that these 'clods' were in fact crusty scaly growths both bleeding to some extent, otherwise the bird seemed in good condition. I do have photographs but my patience and on line skills does not extend to putting those up on P.W. Anyone else seen those growths, and what are they?
