May I make a suggestion? Did you give him a treat - that could be why he drops short. Also not too much of letting him run in, you could be making a rod for your own back ;)

If it were me the instant he made a noise he would be back in the truck. Depends what your plans are for him though :)

Lovely dog, marks well, please don't think I'm being horribly critical :)

Bigbird i take on board what you say.it was our first time out, i was more than happy at what he did, we were just having fun, and i wanted to see if he would go and pick up the dummy. We have never done anything out in the field, played in the garden throw and fetch and drop on the word "dead" in the field it has just been out walking and let him have a good run around when safe to do so.i rent on a farm and am allowed in all fields with no stock in.

I was amazed at what he did on his first go. He has never been scared of gunshot. Where do i want to take it from here well i dont know yet. Found it very hard to try and control and work the dummy launcher, think i would need someone to work the dummy and me give the comands. He is a lovely dog and does listen, well most times.

Thank you and not offended at all

The only problem I found using a dummy launcher that the dog soon knows what is about to happen and gets its self ready to run out,I went back to the starter pistol and dummy so the dog cannot work out what is about to happen after all if you cannot control a retieve at short range you will soon have no hope at a long range.
