Voles

What's the most effective way of getting rid of voles?

I assume it's voles as it's near my veg patch and I saw something dart down a hole and it looked like a mouse. The tunnel holes are about 1 1/2" and perfectly round.

Thanks.

If you have a load of holes in the grass, inch or so in diameter and 'grazed' around the hole then it's mice, we get loads around the garden and the dry stone walls this time of year. Little blighters make a right mess if left unchecked.

Perhaps it is the mice but, that is typical of the vole!

I am making no suggestion here but many confuse the bank and field voles with mice!

Why do you want to get rid of them? My garden is full of them some years and they do not do any harm.

the voles dont do any damage but my dogs tend to think its there personal larder and dig them up for fun leaving the grass like the surface of the moon :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Believe they are vole holes, they are not protected, but do provide owls, kestrels etc with grub. Simple way to get rid is to place a mouse trap close to entrance covered over to protect non target species, ie birds etc, little bit of peanut butter and will catch.

Could try sharp sand down the holes, been told dont like it and will move on
