shooting sticks and seats

This last couple of weeks whilst up in the woods roosting, the sun has been low and has made it difficult to pick out the approaching birds. Because of this I have had to find a convenient tree to blank out the sun. I have looked for something to sit on and it is this that has prompted me to ask the question >> do you use a shooting stick or seat of some sort to take the weight off whilst waiting and what sort of good things have you used or seen or what problems have been encountered. I have heard that some shooting sticks can be very uncomfortable to use and some sort of seats are another lump of kit to drag around and don’t it easy on undulating ground. What are your thoughts and pictures on this one?

Hi, I use a shooting stick on my driven shooting days, it takes the weight off your feet, they are very comfortable and don't take a lot of lugging, however be careful if you decide to buy one, flea bay is a good area to buy one,try to buy a English made one with a wide leather seat,

all the best in your quest,

williamr.

I use one of these (when not using my Bergara seat), http://www.ukshootwarehouse.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=59_63&product_id=109 ,

It is easy to carry, can be used in any ground conditions, is very height adjustable so it can be as much a leaning post as a seat.

The large seating area is also very comfortable for those of us large of rear.

Mines over 5 years old , heavily used and apart from tightening a few nuts every now and then , is perfect.

Thanks for the replies. That seat thingy looks about right. I remember reading something in the shooting times years ago about seat sticks and I remember that the most comfortable one was just like a wood plank but with a couple of eliptical holes in it where the hip joint bone were so that the meat at this point had a bit of releif area. I'm not that big 5'8" >> 13b stone so no big probs with the weight or strength but I just thought that it would be nice to have a seat rest whilst waiting. Normaly when in a hide I use a thick plastic drum that carries 2 nets 3 sticks about 15 shells and a mechanical string operated flapper. other than that I'm either walking or in a vehicle lamping.
