Pigeon feeding times

I just wondered what times of the day the pigeons are going out to feed, and what's the best time to set up? I have not been shooting for the past 8 weeks and the last 5 weeks I've been out of the country. On the way home from the airport I see that a lot of drilling had taken place but the pigeons were still over the rape fields.

Hi, new to the pigeon shooting world. The farmer has just drilled and sprayed his peas. What is the next stage that the pigeons will return to feed on them again!

Thanks for any help,

The pigeons may well show an interest when the peas start poking through the soil.

As is the norm on this forum in April when peas are in the ground some will tell you that they have some success shooting over the crop when the peas are just poking through. I have never found that to be the case. Instead I have shot good bags just a few days after drilling when there are lots of peas left on top.

Your lucky then if you have plenty of peas left on top after drilling. When they do the drilling on the farms I shoot there is hardly anything on top peas or beans even around the headlands. If the pigeons do get on it they are gone in one or two days at the most.

As for shooting times I have been setting up about midday or later.

Intersting regarding feeding times.

Around here at the minute and over the rape we have found early is best.

from first light to around 11am after that very little interest.

we guess they have moved on to another quieter field!

If they kept going like they do in the first couple of hours we would get a decent bag!
