Good mechanic recommendations

Having recently been through car hell, I was wondering if there would be any interest in having a thread for recommendations for good, honest and reliable mechanics and garages. The usual rules apply though please - only leave comments for places you are a customer of, dont please plug your own businesses.

I had to have my engine rebuilt, as some of you will know from the L200 Engine Knock thread. The company who did the work for me have done a top notch job, and have been massively helpful in supporting me in my efforts to get the dealership who sold me it to take responsibility. As such, I'd like to recommend CJN Engine Solutions, who are located just outside Downham Market in Norfolk. They dont have a huge web presence at the moment, but as soon as they get their new Facebook page up and running I will post it.

Here is their current page:

Anyone around north west or more locally to Stockport there's a BMW specialist called DARREN WOOD BMW. Read nothing but good reviews online then took my car because something was draining the battery intermittently. Straight away they said their booked up for 5 weeks but would try and have a look if I brought it down the next morning.

They squeezed me in, changed the hedgehog relay and said if that didn't cure it they would take the part off refund me the money for the part and labour. Due to over 60 years of BMW experience between the 3 of them they diagnosed it correctly first time where as a normal garage could of spent days testing for the drain. They work on all cars but if you have a BMW or something from BMW's M division there the ones to see. Hope this helps anyone around the Manchester area. ATB 425

JSF landrover and 4x4 Norwich...............i have been going there for many years..........i really get looked after well....and they are always up for doing deals...the longer you go there the better the rates get.........and if you are fixing your own landrover ..they always take the time to help you out on the phone....also if you are ...say...re-building your cylinder head...providing you buy the parts from them ...they will press the valve inserts in for you....or press and fit the metalastic bushes for you if you take the part in ...free of charge............

Pressing valve inserts and metalastic bushes? Is this the highly technical forum?

I use autoelite in Hull for everything. They are a merc specialist and i found them when i had my a-class. Their combined labor rate and book time was always cheaper than a cheaper generic who took longer because they didn't know the car well. When i got the jeep i kept going and have nothing but great service from them going on 7 years now.

Highly recommended.

Thanks

Rick

Green Oval Garage in Leeds, independant Land-Rover specialists. I had to have a new XYZ switch fitted, free courtesy car, work carried out on schedule, and a follow-up call to check everything was ok a week or so later. 2 year guarantee, parts and labour.

I would recommend Paul King of Sound Furlong Services, Long Lane, East Haddon. Paul and his brother are reliable, honest chaps who do a good job at fair prices. cannot do all the advanced electrical stuff but most of it is no issue. They have done all my Landrovers for the last 5 years with no probs at all as well as looking after most other 4x4s in the area. 4x4 specialists, usually its a few days to get a job booked in. 077689345404. Tell him Geoff from the stove shop put you in touch.

Rainbow Beetles, Keighley, West Yorks. John is a top bloke, can tackle most things and has just fitted new front discs and pads to my old diesel Focus estate for £98.00. Quite unbelievable.

If you did that job yourself you could have done it for a third of that price and still had change, works both ways bread and butter job for any small garage

That sounds good. Could you tell me where I can buy two front discs and two sets of pads for £35.00 and I'll get a spare set for next time.
