7.62x39 for Hunting

Does anyone use this round? I'm curious as .223 seems very popular for fox. I have shot the 7.62x39 out of an AK47 at my club and I must admit accuracy wasn't exceptional but I think that was more to do with the gun than the round. And I know its popular in Australia and some other countries for shooting feral pigs.

So does anyone have a bolt action chambered for 7.62x39? With more stopping power and lower cost than a .223 it seems quite an attractive option.

In my part of Africa the 7.62x54 ( near .308) is about as common as the ak47. More favored by game Rangers/poachers as much more energy and better chance of stopping something coming towards you.

It may well be 'lower cost' but are you looking at mil-surp ammo?

Not necessarily, at my club most 7.62x39 is from eastern europe and made for sporting purposes. Still cheaper than .223! I would guess you can get expanding ammo too. Might be a good option for foxes or small deer.
