Date will be best determined by the proof stamp which I can see the letter "N".

If it followed by a 2 its 1995 if its a 1 its1968 . No 29xxxx should put it in the 1966/1971 era so that would come in line with an "N1" proof date

stamp .

As the gun appears to be a non ejector are you sure its a NO4 and not a No3 or Yeoman?

i always thought a no4 has locking screws on the main action as in this photo and were ejectors, a no3 having pins through the action, i may be wrong but have also seen a few advertised as no4 with pins ??

I contacted a.y.a.regarding my sxs a.y.a.the gun number starts 16xxxx and the only information they gave me was made in 1963 and the model is 400 e./my shotgun is a 12bore witch has 28inch barrels, ejectors, straight hand stock with brass oval inlay, double triggers,on the action I have 2screws and 2 pins but no locking screws, on the action there is some engraving exactly like the picture of your gun,on the front lump there is a extractor retaining pin/screw.i have been informed by my local gun shop/dealer that my gun is not a a.y.a no4 because it has not got locking screws on the action,(that is the only difference between my shotgun and a proper a.y.a no 4) and should Not be sold as a no 4.hope this information helps you out. I think it would pay you to e.mail a.y.a to find out what they say, they replied back to me within a hour, hope this info helps you.WELSH GROUSE.

It must be born in mind that models have changed over the years and guns of the early 60's that became the guns we know today can not be truly described in the current models terms . AyA have produced a wide range of models such as the No3 ejector which was essentially a No4 but without the action screws and locking pins . They also made guns for export to other countries , never intended for the UK market that for one reason or another ended up here .The 177 side lock being an example .
