Van Hire

As long as you have the licence category for it then you are fine to hire one on a non commercial basis. Just ring round as not too many hire places have them. Always helps if you have driven one before so you don't look a plum trying to find the handbrake etc lol

May be worth thinking about posting the job up on www.AnyVan.com to get some quotes - will give you extra person or two to help with the loading, and quite often you can find someone who is looking for a return load, and they price it at diesel and £10/hr.

I did recently hire from Europcar, just a big transit, but they do an overnight hire 5pm pickup to 9am return. I think it was £38 and that was collecting from central london, unlimited miles too (I did 240). I know they do bigger vehicles, but not sure if they do big enough for what you need.

funnily enough on that note its a quiet time in the removal industry and if its only a 7.5t you might find someone willing to do the whole job for £400 or so if you bargain hard and are flexible on dates. Our moves team at work are scratching about for work so there has never been a better time to bargain hard!

Or like the time many years ago, driving one of those back from Glasgow to London, stopped for a break somewhere near Manchester - when I got back in cab, couldn't start the engine. Laconic lorry driver ambles over, opens the door, pushed in the engine cut-off switch, shuts the door and walks away. Did I feel stupid!

Be mindful you could end up filling the diesel tank for them ,

Price check a removals firm quote/backload , work out your mileages for return trip for hire - account for diesel @ 15 mpg average.

Don`t know how much diesel is round your way, but it`s worth bearing in mind your liable expenses.

.

Plenty of blankets and bubble-wrap for wrapping those precious items and preventing dinks and scratches .

It`s all about how you pack the vehicle,

we used to use a merc 3.5 luton body and could get a 3-bed house and shed/garage contents in.

Heavy bulky items on the floor and over the axles.

Mark the boxes which room in house intended for,

Good lengths of rope/webbing for strapping down and bedroom use later if so required :ninja::whistling:

Think jig-saw puzzle when loading and you wont go far wrong . :good:

.

Last to load >> the kettle and tea making items ;)

..

ps.

dont forget to check the top of wardrobes before moving and loading ,, its surprising what gets hidden on-top :whistling::lol::lol:
