had a invite to shoot on beans .we were set in the hedge row with a fairly strong n/e wind which made for some challenging shots, they would not commit to decoys so moved set up ,they started to come from the left and were dropping in to decoys,my mate was on his usual banter ,he out shot me once again, they were coming nicely for awhile until we had a visit from a anti who had wandered off the footpath [about 300mtr away] telling us we were breaking the law ,told him to phone the police ,he did, as we were leaving the field the were waiting for us ,had a chat with them and they agreed with us that we were perfectly legal.the best bit for us was when they made him apologise to us his face was a picture .any ways we had a good day and picked up 118 pigeons.

A cracking result in the very high winds we have been having for the last few days.

The outcome with the police visit was excellent and hopefully another bigot has been educated.

I had a lady march 3-400 yards across a field from a footpath once, convinced that my hypaflaps on the rotary were tethered live birds.

Even at 20 yards I had to stop the machine and show her they were artificial decoys.

Had Saturday and Sunday on the beans. Beans had been drilled over a week with a steady build up of pigeons. No sign of beans on surface so I knew the pigeons wouldn't stay much longer. Had a steady day on Saturday. Shot 9 til 7 for 54....should have had more but traffic was patchy and they did not decoy well and the shooting was "patchy" as well. Sunday had a list of jobs to do first and wasted time checking other fields. I turned up to the 4th bean field at 3:30 to see about 200 take off from the field and neighboring trees. Set-up by 4, had a busy 30 min then steady until 6:00 then dried up. Most decoyed well, picked 36. Would have been a good chance of a big bag if I could have got on earlier....but should just be thankful to get an "extra" short session fitted in the weekend.

First time I have had beans to shoot over...now I have 2 permissions with a total of 5 fields....looking forward to harvest :yes::yes:

just been told one of my perms is putting in maize for the first time, any thoughts on this one lad's would be gratefull.

Could be good, could be a waste of time. As always, it depends how the crop is harvested and what food is left behind for the pigeons. If it is whole cropped, there may not be too much left, but some cobs may get knocked down during high winds or during harvest. Always worth keeping an eye on.
