dob Posted April 26, 2015 Report Share Posted April 26, 2015 Just seen a fella walking around my local estate carrying and air rifle taking pot shots at pigeons from the pavement, I want to confront him but don't want an altercation with him to cause me grief cos I hold shotgun and firearms tickets. I'd have been on the phone rather than writing an email....if it's anything like the response when an anti phones the police when we're pigeon shooting they'll be out pronto when you mention someone with a gun! Some advice given on a totally different topic, indeed on a different forum, by a former policeman. When reporting matters like this to the police make sure you state that you or others were alarmed, distressed or harassed by the individual`s behaviour. Email is used for non urgent enquiries and takes around 24 - 48 hours for a written response. Is he local or an unknown. If it bothered you that much you'd have phoned 999 and said there's a bloke with a rifle walking around the estate. The response you'd have got would probably have been a little more dynamic. superspark Posted April 29, 2015 Report Share Posted April 29, 2015 (edited) It is an offence to carry a weapon in a public place unless it is in a zipped up or sealed inclosure where as it can not be fired. For all the public now they could be about to shoot someone. This would and should be responded with a 999 call to the police which inturn should be responded to with an armed response unit being dispatched. Idiots like this need to be dealt with quickly as they do not have any respect for safety or the law.
