That little wmr has been having to much fun of late and I needed a challenge!

I wanted a Charlie with the Bess so all weekend been toting it.

Having to get close meant I kept getting busted.

I know the wmr would of had three this weekend but this as fun!

I loaded ole' Bess with double powder and double the shot, course shot. Near 180grn of powder, yes, you do know it is going off!

Right on dark, nearly too dark this chap appears.

Struggling to see the bayonet lug as I aimed a said something to stop him.

Then the fire works started and the pipe bomb roared!

White flame and sparks everywhere!

28yds, pulverised!

On closer examination in the dark I notice this dog fox is sporting a wound!

It looks like a bullet wound to me by I have no proof of that.

Any way, reminded me why I try to avoid head shots with rifles!

What sized shot? or was it the underdog standby of a 7's,6's, 5's, some triple A's and some savvy field craft?

I should imagine there was some fair recoil, nothing like hunting with a single front stuffer, i only have a DB at the moment so i think a S/b is wanted, just for simplicity ( less barrels to clean too! )

Well done U. Not sure I agree with you about not taking headshots...maybe just a case of a little more practice for you

I don't know who shot at this fox or even if it is such a wound. I have wounded yes but a chest she even if they get away their fate is sealed however a smashed jaw is a shame! A flesh wound like this if such can happen anywhere however the fox can not lick this wound clean!

I dont ever like seeing an injured animal and I wasnt having a go. I think that every shot requires a judgement call (range, calibre etc etc etc) and a bad shot is a bad shot. I will chest shoot for preference with the .243 or .270 but generally head shoot with the .17 hmr (only at sensible ranges).

Keep up the good work bud.

No no Mike, am not attacking you or any one. Just my musings and opinions.

Blasted text, never conveys sentiment well!

U - I almost cried

I enjoy your posts and your great sense of humour and the fact that you are prepared to say things most people wouldnt. You also take the abuse well.

I never take offence, it is good to have differences of opinion, even though you are usually wrong

As I said, keep up the good work and keep your posts coming mate. if you ever fancy a trip to Mid Wales i will happily show you how the other half live (the poorer relation of course).
