I have not seen any decent bags on peas posted yet , anyone doing ok on them ?

I have seven fields this year to go at and so far I have shot one pigeon over them ! just setting up the once due to the farmer texting me , other than that I have not bothered as there are just no birds on them , they are growing well and are now about 8" or more high.

Same story on the mustard last year it was hammered this year I have shot five birds over it , again its growing well and is now a good 12 " high or more on some of the four field with others being 7-8 " high .

I have looked early , I have looked late but barely a pigeon to be seen , at this rate I am going to get rusty !

Same here fenboy.

It's all a bit rubbish. I must have 200 plus acres of peas spread over eight or nine fields and have not shot over them yet. Just nothing worth setting up for. at this rate I won't bother till we get some milky laid crop. Failing that I will wait till harvest time.

Pretty much the same here, i have yet to set up on any peas. There's a few feeding on ours in the evening but nothing to warrant setting up.

There is some pea drilling still going in here but don't expect much change on that. Any birds i have shot have very little if anything in there crops.

Seems they are all too busy getting jiggy with it round here at the moment.

Looks like its not just me then , trouble is ( for me ) the crops are going to be up and away this year especially the mustard which is growing at a amazing rate , you can usually depend on the pigeons to keep a few areas low but it does not look like that will be the case this year.

I've had some small bags, 44 and 31, on drilled peas but nothing on sprouted crops....pigeons yet to show any real interest in the peas. Think that may change as a few of the fields of peas round here are the only ones for miles. Most pigeons I have seen is on some poor areas of rape, as JDog will testify.

I have a small flock of pigeons hitting one field in the late afternoon. Unfortunately it is the one field I will not shoot on because it’s next to horses. I was wondering if it was worth putting flags up in the hope they would go to another field where I can shoot. Any suggestions?

Same here in hereford got over 300 acres of peas to go at and devoid of pigeon at the moment, and a lack of birds generally same as last year but I am sure we will all see a marked difference in the upcoming weeks as per usual,

Nothing much doing in this part of North Lincolnshire.

Pigeons have shown no interest at all in peas in my area,on sheep grazed grass in early morning, seem to like something that is coming through there, rape now going into pod, game strip and forage maize very clinicaly drilled and leaves nothing, had some success on freshly drilled environmental acreage.Apart from that the weathers nice and I haven't heard a cuckoo for some years.

I set up a few times on the same field had a total of 10 or so pigeons and maybe 15 to 20 crows/rooks/jackdaws I was pleased being a virgin to this pigeon shooting lark.

But the farmer has asked me to set up on another field so gonna have a go this weekend hoping for nice weather tho

Our Peas are getting well up now ( 6 to 8ins ) and touch wood out of 7 fields there is only one that seem to attract a few pigeons . I was going to shoot it yesterday afternoon but just as I got there we had a heavy hail shower and very little clear sky to be seen so I decided to give it a miss till tomorrow .

I cant see a lot of point getting wet for a few pigeons where the next day or so I can sit in the sun and enjoy the conditions and try and do a bit of good .

At the moment I have been getting between 0 and 30 around every 10 days or so , I told the farm manager I would go at least once a fortnight while the pigeons are going on the field , and with that he is happy to leave the guns off .

Went out yesterday on a mates new permission, had to set up near a old bunker and it ****** down. Shot inside the bunker when it was raining and got 3 crows from shooting inside. But other than that was nothing about.

I had a ride around yesterday and found one field with around a hundred pigeons on it.I stopped and walked them off then i sat in the hedgerow to see if they came back.A few did but not in any good numbers.I shot three as i might shoot the field this weekend and i wanted some birds for the rotary and flapper. The peas are only an inch high at best but it will be a day out.

will stick to my idea they are growing that fast not holding a lot of moisture so not as tender, as on a farm over the road just planted greens and it has a regular supply of pigeons on it so they are present, in the area, and no rape around so peas on my perm should be receiving some attention.

You might be correct about lack of moisture Konnie , but as for growing fast , some of the fields that were drilled took close on 4 weeks before they pushed through the ground and with the cold conditions lasting up to around a week a go if anything there a bit behind from where they should be by now .

I used to take a week off work the last week of June and by the end of the week I would be shooting on cut Peas , now our Peas will be well into July before there cut and by then a lot of the local pigeons would and will be on the patches of laid barley and the milky grain will be there main diet , so with the Peas , although some will give them a look they are no longer the main attraction they once were , might be different if your got the early Peas in your area but overall Peas are no longer the number one crop for shooting a lot of Pigeons . for me anyhow , might be different for you .

The extended tree bud/new leaf season has been the culprit this year. Ash leaves are still being munched on now, but not for much longer. So I for one will expect pigeons to start hitting the peas hard, and I think you will find peas will still feature highly on the menu, along with spring rape or mustard if you are lucky enough to have some available.
