The Wood Pigeon decoy socks from A1 Decoys

First off, very attractive price compared to buying new decoys. Although they seem very expensive for what they are, they are well worth the price, when you consider that they will save you having to dump your old decoys and buy new :)

When you first unpack them, they look very brown and dark, plus very shiney.

This however changes dramatically when you put them over a decoy.

Then they suddenly transform the decoy into a very life like bird. That dark brown becomes a brown and grey colour, and the white bars show up well.

The texture turns from shiney, to a satin gloss, as on real birds, not like shiney like the plastic or dull like the flocked decoy birds.

Do they work on all decoys ?

Well, I've fitted them to some very old rubber full body decoys, and some newer plastic full body decoys, and they fit perfectly.

Do they work on shells ?

They work well on the standard size shells (not the super large), BUT, the hard plastic tends to tear the socks easily, and once fitted you can't stack the shells, so I would forget using them for shells, and just use them on full body decoys :)

Here's a photo of before and after on two decoys

Nice review , I have been using 20 of them for two years now and they are wearing well , they can be stuck in the washing machine when they get grubby too.

They do shine a little when in full sun but that's not caused me any real problems.

A lot of people apparently use them and swear by them.

But I still have to put them to the test here, although they do look exceptionally good and lifelike to me.

But, as they say, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, or in this case, how well they pull in the pigeons :)

No I have just lugged mine about for the last couple of years for fun , never shot a thing over them but just love carrying them about

Oh dear ! Sorry, seemed to have touched a nerve there.

Nope , just made a daft statement , I certainly would not use them if they were no good , do they put extra birds in the bag maybe not , but then I am not sure if the shell decoys I used before them put anymore in the bag than the ones made out of plastic guttering I used when I first started pigeon shooting 30 odd years ok .

Fact is they look very realistic in colour and being used on full bodied also in shape , I have enough confidence in them than I no longer bother carrying a dozen or so dead birds about to use as decoys .
