l200 problem

I had a Mitsubishi shogun sport that did this. Before you do anything else check the water pump and circulation of water in the radiator. If the water pump isn't working then the engine wont cool. If the radiator is blocked, again the engine won't cool properly.

If these both seem fine, it could be a knackered gasket.

Sounds like it could be a sticking or faulty thermostat

Mitsubishi Shoguns I know where good at eating head gaskets for breakfast, and being that it was an Ally head they were good at warping real quick...

Oil all the right colour on the dipstick/under the filler cap? (I.e no mayo)

If you take rad cap off, then turn engine on - does the coolant in the rad bubble?

There is an overflow pipe from the header if it's pumping water out of that till it warms and overheats then it's quite likely to be pressurising the system due to exhaust gasses getting in. They do crack heads on the up to 06 and this is the usual first sign. As above get the header checked for exhaust gasses and go from there. New heads are surprisingly cheap probably as it's quite such a common occurrence.
