Eye Wiping ( But Not As You Know It )

Its been a long while since I was eye wiped by another gun in the same hide , not that I hit every thing I fire at , far from it , the simple truth is I very rarely have another gun in the hide with me as 99.9% I am by myself .

Yesterday I was wiping my eyes for a different reason , I got a phone call off the tractor driver to say he had put up several pigeons off a pea field I haven't been on , as one of our beaters like shooting Rooks ect , and with this field being next door to a outside Pig unit there always plenty of the Black stuff to have a go at.

I didn't know he hadn't been for about a month and the pigeons have been enjoying the peas without any disturbance . I got there around 2pm and as luck would have it you can drive most of the way round field , which is a god send when your got a fair bit of gear to cart .

I set up near a big Oak tree that had a 20yd strip of set a side grass from the tree to the edge of the peas , within 5mins of parking my car I had already had two in the bag ( one on the peas and one in the grass ) . I let the dog pick up the ones from the grass and I picked them up from the peas as they were only a few inches high due to being eaten off by the Rooks and pigeons.

This carried on for the next couple of hours and every time George ( my dog ) came back with one there was a small cloud of pollen which was starting to give my eyes some stick , with all the rubbing and the irritation it got to the stage where I was having a job to pick them out clearly , resulting in a few getting away without a shot being fired at them , but still leaving enough I was getting a shot at.

But there you go , I stuck it out till around six and picking up over 40 found being eye wiped a minor problem and after washing my eyes with Optrex I was soon back to normal and looking forward to my next day out . which will be Friday for looking and Saturday for Shooting .......Hard ole life int it .

Well done 40 is not a bad innings at the moment good bags seem very few and far between at the moment , I have a week off work at the moment , it was booked several months ago in anticipation of some good shooting on the peas , so far it is looking like a wasted week and is unlikely to change before I return to work .

I am lucky in having several fields of peas to go on , but if it hasn't been for the ones I have been on recently which were late going in , the rest hasn't produced a pigeon up to now and they are well in flower with small on . I always say it is better to have one field where there going on than several fields with nothing on , and as you well know not all pea fields will tempt pigeons .

Forty is a great bag with your eyes streaming, well done, result.

Thanks P C ......I think my eyes would have watered a lot more if I hadn't had gone on there. .........Hope your enjoying the heat and dry conditions ., unlike what we are getting at the moment .
