Best scope around £200

So I have just purchased a brand new CZ455 chambered in .17HMR and I'm looking for a scope to go with it, I have roughly £200 to spend give or take a bit and I'm looking for it to have about 6x18 worth of mag.

I am looking at a vortex crossfire ii 6x18-44 ATM as they seem to be a great price for then quality but I'm just wondering if there are any competitions available for the same price range?

Had a look through Larro's Falcon a few weeks ago on his CF - it was optically very clear and seemed a really nice scope. They do a 4-14x44mm menace at just over £200.

I have a Vortex Razor red dot - if they build scopes the way they made this then they'll be an excellent recommendation as above.

assume you want a variable?

have been through my fair share of £0-£300 scopes on, air, rim and centre fire

have moved away from cheaper zoom scopes if you have any requirements on clear glass at low light

I have had

Vx13-9x40 and 50, V24-14x44, V3 6.5-20x44,

hawke nite eye,

MTC mamba lite,

MTC Viper,

Numerous Nikko Stirling zoom and fixed,

Burris 3-9x33, S&B 6x44

Nikon zoom and fixed

Redfield 3-9x44

Tasco 3-9x50 4-12x50

Walther 3-9x44, 3-9x56

Meopta 6x44 and 7x50,

only ones I would buy again in bold but I think you will struggle to get a decent VX1 for £200, The M8 6x44's go for that

Meopta is awesome glass for the money

I have two and would have another in a flash

unless you need the high mag zoom go for a better quality fixed mag

it won't stop you shooting, I have a 4x32 on my PCP and I shoot out to 40-50yds no bother

fixed 6x44 on my .270 and have shot at 600yds with that!

After a lot more looking it is going to be between the MTC viper, MTC mamba (both in 4x16-50) or the Vortex crossfire ii (4x16-44).

Now I'm getting very very good reviews on all of them but the problem I will have is I cannot look through both at the same time :S

Had two mtc scopes sold them both.....should tell you something...

Have to say that I agree. I had a Mamba. Didn't get on at all with it at higher mags especially. Don't know if mine was faulty but parallax was a real problem with it. Got fed up and sold it for an entry level Leopold. Didn't like that either. Ended up buying a Bushnell Elite 4200 with raingaurd protection. Great scope, still use it 5 years later. Also rate 6x42 Meopta, Nikon and Burris scopes. rarely use more than 9 to 12 times mag even out to 200 yds with the HMR so don't really see any point for hunting in going for ultra high mag zooms. Most are next to useless at higher mags anyway, have poor field of view, and poor optics unless you spend a fortune. Fixed mag will be my next purchase, in all probability a good used 6 x 42.
