Hi, I have done a small amount of decoying with my Dad however neither of us really know the proper way to go about things. Basically I would like to know a bit more about the do's and don'ts and get some advice/tuition on how to improve our bags.

Cheers in advance!

My Golden rules for decoying .

1/ You will only shoot decent amounts of pigeon if they are present , that means shooting the field where they want to be feeding ideally .

2/ Put your hide in the position on the field where the pigeons want to be , its no use setting up down one end of a 40 acre field because there is a nice bush to put your hide against if the pigeon want to be up the other end that is barren.

3/ Decoys should always roughly be facing into any wind and you need to leave a gap between the decoys into which the pigeon can drop toward .

Put your furthest decoys at the maximum range you are confident to shoot , you then know anything between you and the hide is in range.

4 / When a pigeon is set for the decoy rise slowly to take the shot avoid sudden quick movements .

If there are two of you in the hide take it in turns to shoot , do not be tempted to both try and shoot at the same time.

Those are a few simple rules , in truth no two days are the same and I am still learning after 30 years at it, what works best is what works on the day , but as in my first point , most importantly the pigeon need to be present.

:welcomeani: to PW.

Advice will be coming along shortly.

Now what`s the over/under on the number of posts before Bakerboy is here touting the BaSC course. :hmm:

Numbers are up to 12, but we have a big room a lot of expertise a nice shooting ground and some superb deals so the more the merrier.

It needs to be a success for a couple of good reasons

1. PW members have asked for the course and a lot of time has been spent in organising.

2. I delayed my holiday by a couple of days and I need the Brownie points to ensure I will be able to do something like this again (holiday wise)
