i had my first expirence on standing wheat yesterday, plenty of activity but very rare to get them to decoy. was not sure on how to put decoys out so just tried a random pattern. it didnt seem to work but was unsure of what pattern to use. any ideas please would be apreciated cos gonna have another bash on saturday. i was using a rotary( at times), two floaters, 4 full bodied on canes, 4 shells on canes, and a few shells on the ground where they have caused damage.

Unless you can find low areas you're in my opinion better to wait for it to lay.

Hopefully, after a heavy rainfall you may get some blow holes. The pigeons will want to land in there because they can get to the milky tops.

In that case you can put a magnet 5-10 yards away from a blow he and half a dozen decoys on the crop in the blow hole if it's big enough.

If the magnet doesn't draw them in replace with a couple of bouncer and place them facing the blow hole.

Problem is they will keep moving around as plenty of tramlines to drop into at the moment. I have pigeons moving between peas, wheat and rape at the moment but none committing to any one field. Pigeons will congregate in one place one day and be somewhere else the next. Need to find a place which is attracting birds for a couple of days. If you find some birds feeding, move them off and seat back and wait to see if they start coming back....if not then not worth setting up.
