There's a clay ground in hightown but it only has sport trap and DTL. It's not easy to get into the grounds as its inside Altcar rifle range, long story short if your names not down you ain't coming in.

I live quite close to you and I have to generally travel an hour or more to go shooting!

I actually took a pic of the tide in at Southport once cause it was the first time in my many visits I'd ever seen it in. Pity the phone it was on got broken and I didn't ransfer the pics to PC.

40 mins from you is www.dolphinclaytargetcentre.com/ at Walmer Bridge which is between Longton and Hesketh bank. ABT, DTL and Sporting available.

geoffwales,

I know this area quite well as I was brought up in Maghull. Firstly the obligatory waste of time telling you that there USED to be a clay club at Simonswood near Kirby but that closed down donkeys years ago! (There that was helpful wasn't it?)

There are a number of Sunday clayshoots in your locality. There are a couple to the west and north as mentioned above, Altcar (which I think is just within the 10 mile range) but I'd PM Will Poon to get the full SP on how to get into the place as its on MOD land. There's The Dolphin http://dolphinclaytargetcentre.com/which is about 20 miles away. When going shooting I don't think in miles I think in time and I'd say The Dolphin is about 40 mins. In the same locality is Ribble Bank Fieldsports http://www.ribblebankfieldsports.co.uk/ which again is about 45mins from Lydiate.

The other nearest grounds are to the east of you, fitting then both are just off the East Lancs Road. Astley Gun Club is marginally the closest http://www.astleygunclub.co.uk/and there is another club, very close to that, on Moss Lane, Astley Green called Bolton Gun Club, don't worry its nowhere near Bolton! http://www.boltongunclub.co.uk/Clay.html. I would guess these two are about a 40/45 minute drive away.

Plenty more but all over an hours drive I'd guess.
