psycho
Want a new gun and can't decide wether to get a .410 or a 20g has anyone got one and are you happy with your choice or do you wish you went for another model wanted for walk around rabbit and a bit of hide work. Thankyou
Cranfield
I tried the Mossberg pump in 20ga and found it awkward to use in a hide, due to its length. I also had to take the moderator off to get it in my standard gun cabinet. A quick part exchange and I had the Hushpower O/U in 20ga, as the moderator fits down the barrel, instead of mostly on the end, its a standard length and no problem. I have not tried the .410 Hushpower versions.
LeadWasp
I had a pump in 20g and couldn't get on with it. Heavy and unwieldy. It seemed the better of the two choices at the time compared to the O/U version - perceived as the quieter report of the two and the O/U action at the time (2013) was horrible and without an ejector (on a pest gun)!! The O/U however was much easier to aim and pointed nicely. If they could use a better donor action on the O/U then this would be a winner. Despite the website saying that they can convert an action of your choice the bloke in the shop just wasn't interested. I thought a conversion of, for example, a second hand 20g silver pigeon would be a very nice moderated gun. However the pump 20g is unwieldy and difficult to sight. The Mossberg action rattles too so is not exactly covert. I think people with the .410's get on much better with them. I regretted buying the 20. Traded it in for a Meopta
Wilts#Dave
Got a .410 pump for low noise pigeon hide work when I need it....wouldn't want anything bigger that's for sure! Takes a bit of getting used to swing/mount wise and it's obviously only a little .410 with a full choke so not the easiest to hit with. I love it though, really effective once you get to grips with it and the pumping etc. No need for hearing protection which is nice, and I find it a satisfying challenge! Muzzle heavy obviously but not 'heavy'. If you're remotely serious about one just go to a gunshop and pick one up, that's what I did.
