Pheasant feed ?

Recommended Posts

Do you lads put your 7week poults straight onto wheat when they arrive or feed them on grower pellets for a couple of weeks ?

Thanks

Pellets are best, we put ours on pellets for two weeks, then worm them with medicated pellets, then change them over to wheat, witch is a pain as they scrat all the wheat out looking for pellets. Edited by reggiegun

Do you mix the two in the same feeders? If so easy answer is don't mix the two! I tend to fill they're empty favourite feeders/top hats with wheat before all the pellets run out so they start to take a bit of wheat and only fill the others as they completely run out.

Most advice is feed pellets till 14 weeks, wot i have always done. When hoppers empty at around 12 weeks will fill more and more up with wheat. When u mix them u do tend to get a lot of wheat wasted.

Depending on the age of ur pen u may not need medicated feed, u can also buy the medication as a powder and mix it urself depending how ur feeding birds or treat the water

We keep ours on pellets until they are 14 weeks, grower pellets for the first 2 weeks or so, then on to poult pellets which are a bit cheaper. We also get some medicated pellets, with flubenvet, which costs £90 extra per ton. We have treated the water in the past but its a lot of work and messing about, medicated pellets are much easier

No don't mix, they scrat the wheat out thinking they will come to pellets

As others have said feed pellets till 14 weeks then wean them over onto wheat dont put it in the hoppers to start with just put half a bucket full under the hopper they will eat this when hungry then as they get the taste for wheat start to put some in the hoppers but dont fill them up when they are eating it all you can then start to fill the hoppers. I have had full hoppers completly emptied in the past by pheasants looking for pellets and you then end up with 3 bags of wasted wheat if it gets wet , I realise my method is time consuming but it works and when you are using 100 hoppers it saves a lot wheat.
