Out shooting this morning with 2 flappers from habit new out of the box yesterday, one lasted 10 minutes the other 15 minutes, guess it serves me right for buying cheap, when I e-mailed him he didnt really seem shocked (suprise, surprise) biggest pile of **** ive ever bought shooting wise.

And yes I broke the wings BB

I bought one ... don't expect this seller to honour any warranty as listed on his ebay listing.

Possible saving grace .. l stripped the motor down and found that one of the reduction gears had stripped it teeth. I've messured the electrical motor and they are get'able ... couldn't make a lot of sense regards the code printed on the motor. Yep, its 12 volt but unsure of the output shaft speed. If l can suss it out; the motors are available. They're inexpensive. If they turn out to be of a similar rubbish quality as what is fitted in the Habit supplied flapper, then it will have been a waste. I reckon with a decent motor they would be okay.

Certainly wouldn't recommend anyone buying a Habit supplied one off ebay.

I e-mailed the seller yesterday, and he returned my e-mail straight away saying how sorry he was  anyway will see how things go and will post the outcome :good:

To be honest for the price I didn't expect them to last forever, but I did expect longer than 10 mins. The most annoying thing was carting them and the btys to my shooting location yesterday all the extra weight for **** all :whistling:

That old saying rings true :yes:Buy cheap buy twice

Yep, that's the one I bought, and Yes, the gearbox stripped. I ordered a new 100 rpm motor gearbox unit from China directly which unfortunately takes forever to come (came after 6 weeks)

Fortunately one of my friends is Nick Tait of Flightline decoys, and he sent me one of his 300 rpm units which have exactly the same dimensions, but far higher quality.

I then put TF2 (bicycle chain) Teflon oil along the flapping arm runners and allowed it to drip in, fitted the new motor and assembled it all, and lo and behold, it works perfectly.

The difference in quality of Nicks motors compared to the originals is enormous :)

Fitted a speed controller (needed for when using on corvids) and a timer, and it's like a crow magnet now, brings them in from miles away.

Hoggyreels, I believe the original motor is 60 or 100 rpm, but are of questionable quality (motor is okay, but gearbox is ****)

The replacement LOOKS almost identical (dimension wise it IS identical), but the gearbox is made of far higher quality materials.

The motor gearbox unit is where he saved the money to get the price down, and unfortunately is the most important part.

Replace the motor gearbox, run some TF2 Teflon oil down the runners, and it will work perfectly

Yep I got caught as well sent it back. they sent another that did not work. got refund from the bay. 1st contact was good but problem with second they never bothered to reply so got refund. Still not heard from them so ordered item 161194740777 from the bay . one free 200 rpm flapper that works fine. justice done.

Yep, put a 300 rpm motor in, use a timer, and use a speed controller. 30-60 BPM for corvids, and 200-300 BPM for pigeon

(BPM = beats per minute)

Mine works better than new now :)

thanks guys been looking for motors as ive built one some years back but it is to slow

as someone said the 300rpm seem the motor of the moment

but getting one with the od of 1" is hard

25mm is the dia you want, as 25.4 mm is 1"

When mine arrived it was battleship grey. So l painted it using blackboard black. Mine lasted maybe an hour and gear sheared. The fact l'd painted mine gave the fella a way out.

Having stripped mine knowing he won't accept it as a return, l noticed a few things.

The top grommet will allow water ingress and the wiring that runs through the grommet, hasn't got any form of wire retaining. In other words a slight tug on the wiring will cause the poorly soldered terminals to fail. The gearbox has insufficient lubrication also.

So lm going to pick up a motor if posdible .. l'd be intetested to know about "Nicks motors" Redditch and also about the speed controller and timer ... probably worth salvaging a floating wreck me thinks ..

Nicks motors are basically the same design, but from a different company, and far far better quality. Used mine 10-12 times all day since the repair, and still works perfect.

Speed controller and timer can be gotten from A1 Decoy, or most other suppliers on eBay. To get round the problem of water ingress, a dad of silicone on the grommet cures it, to get round the cable pulling, simply knot the cable or put a cable tie over it.

On the rear linkage, I filled most of that with grease, then silicone around the edges Of the housing, then screwed shut

The runner tubes for the flapping arms, I dripped some Teflon oil down there

And yes, I painted mine matt black too
