Cucumber

Hi all,

My greenhouse cucumber plant looks healthy, and has produced five superb cucumbers so far, but recently none of the fruit are coming to anything. They are going yellow and shrivelling, not getting any bigger that about an inch. The plant is growing in good compost, in a huge pot, and is watered every day as required. Fertilizer once a week. The leaves are a good deep green colour, and it looks in the picture of health otherwise.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mike.

I tend to find mine and also my courgette do the same in a period of cool weather with little sunshine, I find the greenhouse is sometimes too damp and cool in this unseasonably cool weather.

It can help to nip off the old flower end from the growth so that it doesn't wilt or rot once the cucumber starts to grow.

I'm sure more knowledgeable gardeners might be able to help as I am still on a learning curve!

Ben0850: Greenhouse has been up to 33degrees, flowers are not getting old, the tiny cucumbers are just not developing...

Tiny Tim: Yes, picked and eaten! The trouble is that the plant is not producing more...

Thanks all,

Mike.

Thanks for that ben0850, I don't think I'm overwatering, but I will just let it dry out a little more between waterings. I guess it needs a fair amount to swell the fruit? I've cut off all the yellow, shrivelled ones, and there are a few more starting to develop, so it's looking hopeful...
