If the fault lies with licensing then by law they must issue you with a S7 permit. Don't take no for an answer.

Do you have proof of postage regarding your renewal forms, as it will be date stamped?

Recorded delivery and as the date the letter confirming they have received it.

If your paper work was in in good time they should send you a temporary license, if not you will have to lodge any guns with a rfd.

2 months ahead how much more time do you need to copy this onto a system and print it out

What sort of mistake did they say had happened.

I have never had a problem with D&C issuing permits, they are always only too pleased to issue one.

Bearing in mind that we are all human and mistakes can happen, I would phone them back and ask when exactly you can expect your certificate back and if that is not before it expires could they confirm they will put a permit in the post pronto.

If you have problems, ask to speak to the manager.

. Spoke to one this morning and he was surprised that I hadn't had a phone call or nothing he said it will be sorted before the 4th of August

I've read and heard so many problems with renewals being processed.

Somewhere in the Home Office Guidance there is a bit about the licence holders responsibilities. When I get a minute I might trawl through it again.

I'm sure the onus is on the licence holder to get his/her ticket renewed. i.e the emphasis on getting it done is not the responsibility of the Chief Constable.

Mine has a couple of years to go but i'll make damn sure it's renewed fast otherwise they'll be a sit in.

BTW Norfolk firearms dept are first class, so it will be a routine matter.

Northumbria ask for 10 weeks before the renewal date,

They also say if you comply with that then if it it's late then it's their fault, but if you don't comply with the 10 week rule then if it runs out then you have to put your guns in with a RFD or a friend (shotguns)

Very rare of them not to turn it round within 10 weeks though,

They run an excellent service up here.

Hi

I usually put in for renewal at least 6months prior to expiry to minimise any risk/ issue - I know not necessary according to Police Service's service level statement but hey I dont want to be the one that they cant do this for......

Some PS's require you to 'request' a S7 Permit ('.. as it takes as long to process...') and these are generally only for weeks at a time (I have had 3 monthly ones renewed 3 times in the renewal process....)

My understanding of S7's is they do not allow use of the firearms listed as there are no conditions on it - these just allow you to hold - dont know where this would go if 'push came to shove' - I am sure BASC/other Providers can advise/interpret the guidance.

Finally - who carrys the cost of storage if PS's cannot provide the level of service they strive for or loss of use from being on a S7 for more than 'a reasonable' period?

L

The main problem with S7 permits, which the shooting organisations are trying to get amended, is that a temporary permit does NOT cover you for expanding ammunition. OK for target shooters and collectors who need a S7 but not as helpful for sport shooters who have authority for expanding ammo on their certificates; if you have any it has to be lodged with a dealer or you run the real risk of prosecution if they want to be awkward.

Everyday's a school day; wasn't aware of that and it's something my FEO didn't tell me when he left mine. Mate who is waiting for his new tickets and is currently sitting on a S7 has expanding ammo also. His FEO (same bloke as mine) can't have mentioned it to him either as he would have told me.

Northern Ireland tends to vary between 2 months and 2 YEARS :(

My last variation took 4 1/2 months, with BASC chasing them three times.

Meant I lost 1286 acres of permission, as was waiting for a new gun, and couldn't shoot until I got it :(

So the farmers gave the permissions to others

My experience with TV Police Firearms Dept:

I sent the paperwork 6 weeks before expiry, which apparently is not long enough for them, their term being "late submission", and therefore they will not issue an S7. I think I'm right in assuming that most people wouldn't call six weeks in advance "late."

What particularly annoys me is that they cashed the cheque three days after I sent the renewal - it seems that they're very efficient in certain ways. This is the sort of service I'd expect from Argos...actually Argos would probably be better.

BASC advice: store guns with RFD and send the bill to the police. I'm pretty certain my RFD would not agree to that.

You're right, he wouldn't; it's not his problem. What I think BASC mean is that you pay your RFD's bill then submit that invoice to your licensing department, after which they will pass it round the office for a good laugh before binning it.

Did licensing not inform you of a time scale for handing in your renewal application? If they did then you may be ok, as long as you have proof of that time scale and you applied within it. Good luck, let us know how you get on.
