Scotlands air guns come April

Such a shame about this new legislation for scotland, but I've hardly heard anything about it?

I have an air rifle and a sgc, but dont think it would be worth applying for a FAC just to keep it for occasional plinking, if they would even let me. Do you guys think I should sell it asap? The other option would be to give it to a relative down south to take care of. Surely most of Scotlands air rifles will be unwanted come next april and will be worth less than nothing as hundreds of thousands are handed in to be destroyed?

Thoughts?

I hate to be "that guy" buy given how Haggisland has screwed airgunning I woukd imagine there will be a lot of good deals flying about.

Anyone with some sense and a big enough bankroll would be insane not to turn up next Jan and start buying all the decent second hand air rifles and moving them south

I'm unsure if it's true but Adolf Hitler was supposed to have penned this quote-

“The best way to take control over a people and control them utterly is to take a little of their freedom at a time, to erode rights by a thousand tiny and almost imperceptible reductions. In this way, the people will not see those rights and freedoms being removed until past the point at which these changes cannot be reversed.”

Do the powers that be have a secret agenda with aspirations of a murderous tyrant?? :hmm:

What a stupid comment, its hitting the people who care about shooting with a air rifle/ pistol. We did not ask for the licence, will it make those who shoot at people or go out and shoot at someone or someones pet, make them go get a licence also it happens south of the border to. It wont be long before the rest of the uk goes the same and because we have had our licence a while we will be hopping over the wall and buying up the cheap rifles as people try to get rid of them.

There won't be a great flood of cheap rifles for one very good reason, most people will never hear about the new laws. Most owners aren't members of forums and won't know anything, they'll just go on using their air rifles in ignorance, undetected and most people won't care less. Those who do know will comply and be checked regularly. The coppers aren't going to go looking for airgun owners, they will only go to reports of gun crime, just as they do now. No change except an extra offence if you get caught.

Haha. Some of us did, unfortunately. The air gun laws are part of the new "devolved powers" as a 'sorry your referendum failed' consolation prize.

It seems ridiculous. I'm not sure the police have a hope in hell of licensing half a million air rifles before next April, on top of the already long wait times for other FAC's.

I'd like to add that even though 87% of all the experts and independent bodies they asked said this was over the top, they did it anyway.

am I correct in saying, the Scottish people voted this airgun hate mob into power to make these stupid laws concerning air rifles ???

cos if they did I bet they are sorry now

From an Englishman in Scotland.

Yes the majority in Scotland voted in the Nationalist Party and if they continue in power in the end Scotland will be another Greece in EU....euro and all. It will be no more than change for the sake of it power will be in Brussels instead of London.

On the airgun issue there is little folk with SGC / FAC can do except pay up for another ticket or put air rifle on FAC. For the folk that only have an air rifle/pistol they can chance it and do nothing with little risk of being caught.

Surely if they want the 'honest' airgun users to comply with this new law, then there would have to be some sort of grace period before gaining a licence. Its just a little bit unjust to inform the public that in a few months they will need a licence, when the application and approval of said licence will take more than a few months. I suggest if the want folk to comply then they make the paperwork and process available..

Maybe, just maybe the shooters in England and Wales will show enough passion and defeat the ridiculous notion...........

I for one will be willing to march on in London if the day comes.

same here.the only way this law fails is if everyone opposes it and makes it a completely futile exercise for the police and government to the point its scrapped.BUT that means everyone with a gun all singing from the same hymn sheet which may prove harder to sort than anything.

The problem is if the law fails because people refuse to comply then our comrades up North will just say that the law has failed and the only way to keep the public safe from the menace of airguns is to ban them completely. The time for mass opposition was before the act was brought in and from down here I saw no pro active opposition, ie protesting outside the Scottish Parliament etc.

Shooting needs to wake up, the only way minority groups get anything done is by making a noise.........ie Gay marriage.

Does this mean that I have to marry a bloke to keep my air guns - I know that the Jocks wear skirts, but shurely a shtep too far

The gun law will be implemented and no one will say a word because they are all sheep .The ruling elite are eroding your rights away bit by bit and you cant see it .It needs everyone to stand up and ******* shout out loud otherwise you can kiss your guns goodby i would hold on to my guns no matter what the law said

The scary thing is theres going to be more and more of this over the coming years - I can honestly imagine a total firearm ban being enforced during my lifetime (I'm 32 now).

I think every single person who has an airgun in Scotland now should apply for the licence they need to keep it. That way the powers that be will see the size and voice of that community and (hopefully!) realise that its big enough not to be legislated away.

If folks just roll over and give up their airguns then at "governing" (apostrophes deliberate..) level they'll just see a few thousand applications for licences and come to the conclusion that theres no real need or desire for airguns and therefore can just outright ban them.

"Hey, only 4000 people applied, they're not a big enough group to cause us any hassle - Ban them all!"

If the police are inundated with FAC applications and then hounded over the inevitable backlog hopefully it will become apparent to the various governing nitwits that the shooting community is a large and vocal one!
