what choke for a semi auto

Recommended Posts

Depends what shell you're using. If 28gr then 1/2 or full, 32gr, use 1/4 or half, 34gr use imp cyl or 1/4, and 36gr use cyl or imp cyl.

Again, it depends on what shot size and what range you intend to be shooting at. Decoying close I use cyl / imp cyl, but distance Decoying I stick with 1/4 or 1/2.

Mostly now, as close shots are few and far between, even with Decoying, I just stick to 1/2.

But generally 1/4 to 1/2 will serve you well on most things

I use a Briley IM in my semi for pigeons. It's good for the short and the longer shots.

My IM is a boring old Browning factory choke but it shoots about ¾ / 65% / theoretical IM / whatever you want to call it.

I chopped and changed for a year when I got the gun, then settled on IC. Birds came down OK but a fair few came down flapping. Played around some more (quite a bit with full choke) and eventually upped it to Modified and got fewer flappers. Upped again recently to IM as my shooting has improved and now most of them hit the deck without bouncing / flapping / protesting. I'm sticking with that now.
