A Nice Way To Pass The Afternoon

SAM_1456_zpsrof4tiys.jpgSAM_1460_zpsn93ynk1j.jpgAfter inviting one of our members ( Mentalmac ) for a bit of pigeon shooting on my land I shoot on a week ago, the weather forecast of heavy rain for last Friday put the kybosh on that for the day .

So we arranged we would have a go on Saturday , and as it turned out it was a lovely dry , warm day , ideal for sitting around in the Norfolk countryside even if things on the pigeon front is a bit on the quiet side .

Chris arrived at mine around ten am after driving from Essex and after a bacon roll and a cup of tea we had a ride around to show him some of the areas I shoot on , as I already knew where we were going to spend the afternoon and hopefully find a few pigeons to give him a shot or two for the effort he made in coming up to mine in the first place . we like to take things easy and not rush about like Grey Hounds so after another cup of tea round mine we set off at a little after 1pm to stubble field which was 5 miles away from where I live.

Driving down the track there are two Rape fields either side and the telegraph wires had several pigeons sitting around on them so I was hoping if we had a shot now and then we would keep them on the move and with a bit of luck pull a few in to the decoys .

Pulling up to the stubble field , there were a few about but I would have liked to had seen more , but then I couldn't do much about it so we had to make the most of what was about . we set up at 1. 50pm and I said to Chris we will get a pigeon by 2pm , as luck would have it, one did come straight in and I managed to get it with our first shot of the day.

We shared the same hide as Chris had done very little decoying and hopefully I could show him one or two tricks of the trade for when he have a go himself back in Essex. We took turns each as I don't like two people shooting at the same time , purely for safety, as most of the time I am by myself and don't have to worry about any one else in the hide , apart from my dog .

Things never got hectic, but throughout the afternoon we never had a to longer gap where we didn't have a pigeon come and have a look and give one of us a shot . this carried on till we decided to call it a day at 6.30 as we had a bit of clearing up to do and Chris had a 2 hour trip back to see his newly married wife .

All in all we had a enjoyable afternoon out and ended the day on 73 pigeons and 1 unlucky Crow.

Hi Marshman

haha we must have both written up our reports at the same time, they almost are the same! :-).

Thank you again John for a cracking day, had a great time and learnt a great deal which I will put to good use.

I drove the whole way home with a big smile on my face :-)

Here's my write up of this: Hadn't realised Marshman was writing this at the same time haha, :-).

Was a great day, there is certainly something nice about Norfolk and feeling peaceful even with the bangs from the guns. Great part of the world.

I am sure that Mentalmac greatly appreciated your kind offer.

Yes it made a change having a bit of company , took a bit of time to understand his accent though, but after repeating himself a few times I had a good idea of what he was trying to say

Maybe one day before we are to old , it would be nice to spend a day sharing a hide with you sir , but looking at some of the words you post I would have to go on a course for elocution

We will almost certainly speak the same language of pigeon shooting. Having seen how many pigeons there are in Norfolk on my recent visit I would welcome a trip there.
