ShootingEgg Posted August 22, 2015 Report Share Posted August 22, 2015 Im going deccoying today, want to take the dog... In training he is fine with starting pistol and a .38 dummy launcher.. But im a little wary of hide shooting with a 20 and a 12g... I will probably be using my 410 as i like a challenge but chap i will be with will more than likely have a 12... guzzicat Posted August 22, 2015 Report Share Posted August 22, 2015 I introduced my labs in the past by walking with dog on lead towards a clay shoot,giving dog a food treat as I approached& giving a reassuring pat at times ,just let dog get slowly used to noise, had no problems. shoot and be safe Posted August 22, 2015 Report Share Posted August 22, 2015 Don't do it. The noise can't escape from a hide very well and can sometimes be amplified. Introduce him to a 12b the same as you did for the starting pistol (start well over 100 yards away shooting away from him. Slowly decrease the distance). Leaving the dog at home I would suspect , you have on a few of your posts now shown that you are intent on rushing things with your dog despite plenty of advice against it . Take your time and you will have a worthwhile companion for years to come , rush things and you will likely end up with a pain in the **** , trust me I speak from experience . I take him to a trainer once a week, he has shown no sign of being gun shy when around either a launcher starting pistol or indeed at my clay shoot.
