Hard won birds.

A lot of birds have been using a rape stubble off my boundary, have watched a few times to see if any were dropping in to some big laid patches on my perm.to day some birds feeding on them ,had to set up parallel to a busy road. Could not shoot to the right because of the road so a lot of birds went unshot.was very frustrating as a good bag was to be had if only I was able to shoot that way. As it was I made the best of things and only shot birds over the laid patch also let birds go when over the standing corn . Had 30 birds for my 3 hours and enjoyed it.

There are nearly always frustrations...not seeing any birds, seeing plenty of traffic on a flight line but not coming your way and birds pulled towards the decoys but then not committing....not sure which is more frustrating....but if you get some sport and you shoot well then its worth it. We have to enjoy what we get.

Well done on you bag and your discipline. I have a pea field on one of my perms that has had a lot of traffic for weeks. The crop is particularly high and thick so I have resisted shooting until harvest as I just could not have picked up cleanly without trampling the crop -even with the dog. I was more than a bit miffed to find 2 "rascals" shooting the field on Saturday. When I went down to have a word, I asked how they were going to pick the birds, they stated without concern that they were picking the obvious and just leaving the rest. Really frustrating but I hope I have retained the moral higher ground!
